Today, I was called in to my daughters' school for a parent and teacher conference. While I would like to say that this was a surprise, I have to say, I know that both Nana and Pino are very smart, and very hardworking. I saw no reason for them to call in a parent unless something had happened, and I was informed that every parent was called in to have a discussion with the teacher about how their child is progressing in the classroom.

[He would smile, but then, he's much more serious about this then anything else.]

It seems that the teachers were concerned about my daughter's speedy progress in class. They actually gave her a lower grade, because she didn't show her work on the paper. The answers were correct, and yet they saw fit to punish her because she had found a speedier way to give them what they wanted. I, as a parent, was outraged.

[That's putting it lightly. He made a little bit of a mess in the classroom.]

Here, they made me sit in one of those absurd desks made for children, and then went over how many times Pino had raised her hand, because she knew the answer, compared to the other children who did not know the answer. And then they told me that she doesn't use free time like the other children! They said she was strange, and she would copy someone else's painting. [He's getting a little angrier.] She's a child! And here they blame her for something that is not really her fault! [Breathe. Calm down.]

Thought of the day: Do not penalize the child because you are too ignorant to know that they are right.

[He pauses, taking the time to think of what he wants to say next.]

Aside from my comments on the current state of the Siren's Port school system, there are two other items on my list tonight. As you all know, we recently lost Yako Katsuragi from our midst. She was a good friend, and a hard worker, and she will be sorely missed. She was in charge of running the Newcomer Community Center, as well as scheduling all of the activities that took place there. Now that she's gone, we are without someone to maintain the community center. So, I would like to put a call out for everyone to step up to the plate, so to speak. If you think you could do a good job of making sure the center runs smoothly, I would be glad to look at your resume. Of course, whoever runs the center will also be granted access to the Newcomer Political Party and all it's meetings from here on out. We need your help. I don't want the center to close, just because we all decided not to do something about it.

[He looks saddened by that statement. It would be a shame to shut down the center because of no help.]

The other thing I'd like to mention is the Newcomer Business Convention that Mr. Chaolan has been setting up. I, as well as the rest of the Newcomer Political Party, think that this will be a great opportunity to bring to light other business in the area, and to help other Newcomers out there. The NPP will be backing the convention, and I hope that every Newcomer who currently runs a business, or knows of a business friendly and neutral to Newcomers, will participate in this event.

Thank you for your time.

Weather Partly sunny, a strong breeze from the south. High 14°C and a low of 7°C (57deg;F/45°F)

Current Moon Phase: Last Quarter

Morning sirens go off at 6:24am, and evening sirens are at 8:01pm.

News & Advertisements

- Preparations for tomorrow’s Aerial Races are in full swing, with test runs on raising the 12 large checkpoint rings marking the race’s flight course, which will be suspended in the skies again for the races immediately following sirens tomorrow morning. A primetime TV special (also streaming over NV vide) demonstrates the hover technology behind these rings, designed by SERO. Each ring is placed at a different altitude, and competitors must fly through them in the correct sequence, crossing the island in a star-shaped pattern. An electronic tracker will count the races as they pass through, and touching the rings themselves will result in immediate disqualification. ‘Plus’-class races and Flying Machines will be traveling the course for 3 laps, the rest for only one pass through.

On the ground, full day fairgrounds passes will be sold for $15 each, offering unlimited rides and lots of open-air entertainment, including live music, full big-screen coverage of the races, & the winner’s circle ceremony.

- FOR RENT: Rooftop space to watch Aerial Race. It's a bird! It's a plane! No... wait! It's the racers for the Aerial Race, up way too high above you to even be able to see them very well! Don't let this be you this year. I'm renting out the roof of the apartment building I own for the Aerial Races to somebody who wants the best seat in town. Come over and watch with me, and hey, bring some friends!

For $100 per person up to 10 people, this twelve-story apartment building in Sector 2 stands up above all the buildings around it, and gives you a great vantage point of the start/finish line. Rental price includes the space for the day for up to ten people, though if you throw in an extra 10 bucks per person I'll drag up some deck chairs. We can order a pizza while we're up there, but you'll have to pay for that too. There's a hose spigot up there so water is free, but otherwise BYOB. Normally the roof is a non-smoking area, but I'm the landlord so if you want to smoke just give me another $10 per person, and also some cigarettes if I ask for them. Call Jimmy if you're interested in this once in a lifetime opportunity! Don't get left on the ground floor!

[Jinx looks excited. So excited that she might explode if she doesn't tell anyone and everyone why. Meanwhile, Gabriel is in the background, leaning against a wall and looking like the cat who ate the canary. Oh, he's smug.]

I have an announcement-- [She stops herself and looks back at Gabriel, her grin only getting bigger.] We have an announcement to make. Last night, Gabriel proposed to me...

[She shows off her left hand and has to contain a squeal. What the audience should be turning their attention toward is her recently acquired fashion statement.] I said yes!

[As if everyone in the Port is too dumb to put two and two together, she just has to add:] We're getting married!

[From the peanut gallery:] Never let it be said that I didn't make an honest woman out of her. [A beat.] ...Well, sorta.

To those who may have known them, Sir "Iron-Tail" Fratley and Bruce Wayne have disappeared from the city. I've also been recently informed that Mitchell Hundred has been missing for some time, and it's assumed that he has disappeared and gone home as well. I want to extend my sympathies for all of the people who knew them. An investigation will be launched to confirm that their disappearances are not related to any foul play, however.

[She knows Bruce and Fratley weren't hurt. They simply disappeared. But Mitchell's disappearance is a little disconcerting and she's going to look into that one personally. It doesn't seem likely that he was attacked or kidnapped but it's better to be safe than sorry.]

We've also received several complaints regarding memory loss. We suspect that there's been someone going around the city and scrambling, or completely erasing, some people's memories. If you are one of those who suspect you've encountered this person, please step forward.

We're also looking for any tips regarding this person's identity or any information someone may have about them. If you know anything, please contact me or anyone at the SPPD. You can even do it anonymously if you're concerned.

[And that should be it for the public PSA and general business. When she speaks again, her tone is almost somber instead of clipped and professional.]

It's been recommended to me that I find a hobby, something outside of work or investigating. Any suggestions from the general populace?

[ooc: There are sign-ups for the takedown of the Wiles of Memory Plot here. If you want to aid in the takedown and signed up before, head on over there! There's still some spots open, too.]

[About two days ago there was a change. It was not immediately noticeable yet it was monumental. Vincent's steps had become lighter, his smiles genuine, and when he raised his face up it was no longer with a subtle audacity. His shoulders were relaxed and for the first time in his life he walked without a weigh around his neck. He could breathe freely.

And he has not yet noticed he's lost something.

He's forgotten entirely about that woman. He's forgotten many things. They're distant things however and while they provide the background for the present they are not necessary for existence. So he still knows his acquaintances, co-workers, how old he is, and what his favorite foods are.

But he has forgotten what he is.

In the past two days he's had no inkling of the change. Yet bliss cannot last forever and at last the past will no longer allow itself to be ignored. He has come across a certain photograph and he's just puzzled by it. Straight forward and confident young man that he is, he's decided to ask around.]

You know it's strange, but I cannot for the life of me remember who this is. [He holds the photo up to his NV feed as he sits upon the ground in some grand parlor, looking utterly mystified.] It seems like it was taken at a party, or some event, given how happy I look, but I can't remember--

[He frowns as he draws the photo back to look at it.] My...this young man had such terrible hair. It's like a perm gone bad.

[He snickers to himself and shrugs.] Maybe I was terribly drunk at the time?

[He taps his chin and looks back up at the feed.] For some reason I've found I have a hundred or so pictures of him on my NV. Is someone playing a joke? If so I don't see the punchline.

[He shakes his head.] Someone plese do indulge me if they have an idea. I'm dying to find out.

[The feed cuts.]

[OOC: Part of the Wiles of Memory plot. Vincent lost his memory on the 12th but as it had no effect on his recent memories (The memories he's forgotten are connected to his childhood) he's just now beginning to notice something is wrong. Nevertheless in forgetting those memories Vincent has also had a distinct personality change (if this post was not enough to clue you in) from charmingly creepy snake in the grass to slightly neurotic, snide, but mostly pleasant young man. This will probably have been noticeable to observant people around him.

Also finally I am wrapping up this term of school and next week are finals. So no lightning speed tagging here, as a warning. If you need things hand-waved for the plot, just PM me.]

Hi everyone! I've got-

[There's a lot of glare on the screen, so much you can barely see the outline of a sidewalk in one corner of the video.]

Oh, crap. Wait a second.

[It literally is a second, and the camera is fixed. Now, the cause of the glare is clear. Alice is sitting at a little sidewalk cafe, sparkling in the bright sunlight. Light bounces off every bit of her skin not shadowed by her fabulous hat. Even the skin covered shimmers slightly, like she's coated in glitter.]

That's better. So like I was saying, I've got a question for everyone. This place is so isolated, and it's almost impossible to get some of the things I had at home. Like yesterday, I found out that apparently they don't ship out my brand of watercolors! I have to make due with some new brand now.

[Huff. Disappointed Alice is disappointed.]

Anyway, my question is, if you could have one thing from home here in Port, what would it be?

I've been trying to figure it out, but so far I just keep getting zapped.

[Sigh. The kid on camera shudders a little. He's clearly not a big fan of conducting electricity, but then again, who is?]

I don't really have any money or anything, but if anyone knows how to repair electronics...well. I'm sick of getting elbowed by Keigo all the time when I need to borrow his NV.

[Sullenly.]

And mine is definitely fried. Uh, but I could pay you back, someday. Maybe. Or-or if you like ramen, we have some ramen here. Uh. I'm sure we could work something out, anyway. You know? So, what do you say? Someone around here must know how these things work, right?
