[A beaming Roxas is holding a beautiful, sparkling kind of dinky but well-polished trophy with a molded brass coffee mug on top. Classy.]

I wasn't going to say anything, but my friends said I should. [He looks sort of sheepishly embarrassed, yet proud.]

Anyway, yesterday they held the "King o' Joe coffee contest yesterday, and...I won. Well, I'm the one who competed, but I don't think I did it by myself. I owe everything I know about making really good coffee to you, Mr. Armando. [This is said with UTMOST SINCERITY because the visored one is both an excellent teacher and sort of scary when it comes to java.]

The prize is free shipping on imported wholesale coffee, so we're going to have a celebration this weekend with special sales and stuff—not everything's going to be really cheap, since we haven't actually ordered any new stuff yet, but it'll be a good time, I promise. Stop by the S.S. Kahve in Sector 3.

Oh yeah! Someone quit last week to go work at a bookstore or something, so there's a spot open if anyone's looking for a job. It's a pretty cool place, and we serve really good coffee. [He grins at the trophy.] See, proof.
seclusion: (the silence is loud.)

He— ...Hello? [This most hesitant of greetings comes from a young boy, from the sound of things. There's a sizeable pause before he says anything else, but no outside noises come through in the interim.]

I'm sorry - I hope this is working... I was told how to use this, but I can't see it to check for sure. I guess we'll see if I'm doing this right... Or, at least, you will. [Beat for comedic timing.

He continues on like he didn't just make a really awful joke, but his voice sounds a little more lighthearted, now, soft-spoken though he is.]
Um, this place isn't anything like I'm used to. I was a little confused, because right when I came here, I could tell it was crowded, and I didn't expect that at all. But I talked to a Greeter! He was really nice, and he helped explain things to me. I don't think I've ever heard of Canada, let alone Siren's Port, but it's really something... isn't it?

Anyway... my name is Emil. The Greeter was kind enough to lead me to the building I'll be staying in, so I was able to settle in already. [That was a bit of an ordeal.] Even so, it's going to take a lot of getting used to. Normally, my butler helps me out... [With things like cooking, cleaning, and... getting dressed, because... eyes.] I - I guess I've got a lot of catching up to do. It's weird how you never fully realize how much you rely on someone until you have to start thinking how to get along without them, don't you think? Oh, but...! [That's the sound of someone recognizing they've gotten sidetracked and remembering to get back to the task at hand.] The Greeter explained a little bit of how things work, here, too. I'm going to need to earn money for food and clothing and other important things, aren't I? He said it might be best to ask, um, 'my fellow Newcomers.'

[A deep breath.]

So, I wanted to ask about - jobs, I guess. And what kinds of jobs people do, and offer, and what you need to be able to do them... I've never had a job. [He does sound a little sheepish.] Sebastian always takes care of everything, and if I'm not in my home, I don't get around very easily unless I'm with a friend. So I haven't developed very many skills... I mean, I can play piano, and I can, um... turn things into stone... [For the first time, his voice is a little bit distressed.] I don't think you can do those things for money, though.

Sorry, this is kind of troubling. Some guys offered me a money loan, but I was reluctant to take it since I was in a hurry to get inside. [Sensory overload. Going from recluse to smack dab in the middle of a city was pretty startling.] If there's anything I can do, I'll be glad to try it... I don't think Sebastian anticipated me being without him or my friends, or he'd have prepared me for this kind of thing. Just - if you have any suggestions, I'd be really grateful. Really, really grateful.

—Thank you very much. I really hope that thing was on this whole time.

[The video begins with a shot of Re-l's desk, covered in case files and all manner of papers. It quickly adjusts to show her instead, sitting on the sofa in her office. Beside her is a large, black laborador, dozing with his head pressed against her thigh. She doesn't seem to be paying the beast any mind for the most part, arms folded across her chest.]

Most of you don't care to know but the Joker was found dead several days ago in the Darkness. He has yet to return and the force is on high alert for him to reappear at the baseball diamond. Hopefully, he'll see fit to stay home this time.

[It's strange, in a way, that everything's come around full circle. Her trials as an officer started with the Joker; she almost feels as if now would be the perfect time for her to resign. But that wouldn't help things, after all.]

I thought maybe I'd be bored but I found all of this work for me to do in the meantime. Courtesy of Sherlock Holmes. [She rolls her eyes, though her expression turns melancholy.] He, too, has disappeared from the island...as has John Watson. My condolences to their friends and co-workers. They were both fine men.

[It's so formal coming out of her. It makes her sick. She grimaces briefly, the disgust masked as she turns her head towards the dog.]

I suppose I'll be looking after this...monstrosity...until we get him through the proper K9 training he'll need to work with us.

[At his mention, the dog's head perks up and he looks at Re-l, tongue lolling out. Despite all of her exasperation, she reaches out to pet the big, shaggy head. After a moment, she regards the NV.]

To all Newcomers, my name is Re-l Mayer and I'm both a corporal here and a case worker. I'm here to offer aid and information for whatever you may need. I have a document you can look over for basic information, and there is a text to voice function for those who may need it. It's lacking some numbers and contacts for now and I would urge anyone to contact me should they want to be added to the Newcomer Businesses list or if they are affiliated with the hospitals.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. My door's always open and my NV is [unfortunately] always on.

Kevin Ford's NV is offline and Mimsy is gone.

I seem to be living alone now.

At the same time, two people I know from home are in the Port. Strange how things work here.

Hello, Siren's Port. I heard you like questions, and you haven't been asked nearly enough recently.

So I have a question for you. Think carefully about it, now.

When do you think killing someone is justifiable?

-DD

[ Dexter is bored thumbing through records at work, and found out how to send anonymous texts. Not having someone to kill is making him antsy, and this is just a good way to have a little fun--and maybe illuminate some people to him who could stand a little closer scrutiny. Maybe he'll even find a playmate~

Edit 07/08 OOC: Apologies for the delay, I've been on hiatus.]

[The NV broadcast appears to be coming from a reading room at the courthouse (for those who recognise it), and there's a rather lovely, smiling woman accompanying it, dressed smartly and looking happy.]

Well it's taken me almost three weeks to get myself onto the network which is grounds for being criminally lazy in my book, but I suppose there's no time like the present to make amends.

[Another smile, and then down to business.]

Good afternoon, my name's Mia Fey, and as of three-thirty this afternoon I'm officially licensed to practice law in the city of Siren's Port. I hope I won't have to meet many of you in a professional capacity, seeing as I'm a defense attorney, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to meeting some new faces and getting to know some of you better.

[She tucks a fly away wisp of hair behind her ear and smiles one last time for the camera before she ends the feed.]

surgicalshot: (doctor give me the news)
[personal profile] surgicalshot
[Two very familiar doctors are at the Newcomer Clinic, which has recently been stocked with lots of boxes of syringes, non-latex gloves, blankets, tissues, and the standard issue hospital masks. Doctor Tenma has a mask around his neck, something that he could easily pull up for the next patient. There’s some gloves hanging around his stethoscope, too, the same with Doctor Yumeno.]

I think everyone knows by now that there’s some kind of virus going around. It presents itself like the flu, and it’s spreading pretty fast.

[Tenma looks at Daedalus, who looks at the camera.]

We're here to advise you on the basics. Stay rested and well-hydrated, this is especially important if you are losing fluids to fever or vomiting. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used to reduce a fever.

[Tenma moves one of the boxes aside, a package filled with prescription bottles.]

From what we’ve heard, there might be a shortage of these drugs at local pharmacies. We do have some supply here at the newcomer clinic, if you need to stop by. If fever lasts for longer than 3 days, or if you begin coughing up blood, give one of us, or the Clinic, a call.

[Daedalus gives a small nod at the camera, hands folded on the table.]

If your temperature rises above 104°F, you'll want to come to the emergency room at either Siren's Port General, or Skye Medical Center. Skye's walk-in clinic is open even during darkness, but...it's very crowded now, you can expect to be waiting for several hours. If you're not experiencing severe symptoms, it's probably a better idea to stay home and in bed.

Please be careful to avoid heavily congested public places, such as public transportation, the mall, stadium, movie theaters, all of those kind of things. Be sure you're washing hands, especially before preparing or handling food.

[Tenma points to the mask around his neck.]

Also, it might be wise to pick up one of these hospital masks, so if you go into a crowded place, it’s just an extra protection against breathing in any germs. We have a lot of boxes of them at the Clinic, so if you want, you can stop by and pick one or two up.

[Daedalus speaks up again.]

As of right now, SERO's Disease Control Division has noted symptoms surfacing rapidly among many newcomers and local citizens alike, over the past 48 hours. They have advised that hospitals treat this as an outbreak-level threat. They are the Island's leading source of information on epidemiology breakthroughs, and we at SPGH and Skye are receiving hourly developments from each of the hospitals, which are in open communication with one another.

We'll be keeping you updated with relevant information as it develops on our end, if we can beat the news media to it. We'd also like to be aware of the resources available to newcomers. You can come here to the clinic for basic over-the-counter medical supplies. We've purchased them in bulk, and have them here, so you can skip the lines at the drug store.

[Tenma smiles reassuringly at the camera.]

We’re not trying to scare you or anything by all of this, by the way. We just want to keep everyone healthy, so if you need anything, you can call any of the doctors from the Newcomer Clinic, or myself, or Doctor Yumeno, 24/7. That's all we have for now, so be safe, Siren's Port!
