seclusionHe— ...Hello? [This most hesitant of greetings comes from a young boy, from the sound of things. There's a sizeable pause before he says anything else, but no outside noises come through in the interim.]
I'm sorry - I hope this is working... I was told how to use this, but I can't see it to check for sure. I guess we'll see if I'm doing this right... Or, at least, you will. [Beat for comedic timing.
He continues on like he didn't just make a really awful joke, but his voice sounds a little more lighthearted, now, soft-spoken though he is.] Um, this place isn't anything like I'm used to. I was a little confused, because right when I came here, I could tell it was crowded, and I didn't expect that at all. But I talked to a Greeter! He was really nice, and he helped explain things to me. I don't think I've ever heard of Canada, let alone Siren's Port, but it's really something... isn't it?
Anyway... my name is Emil. The Greeter was kind enough to lead me to the building I'll be staying in, so I was able to settle in already. [That was a bit of an ordeal.] Even so, it's going to take a lot of getting used to. Normally, my butler helps me out... [With things like cooking, cleaning, and... getting dressed, because... eyes.] I - I guess I've got a lot of catching up to do. It's weird how you never fully realize how much you rely on someone until you have to start thinking how to get along without them, don't you think? Oh, but...! [That's the sound of someone recognizing they've gotten sidetracked and remembering to get back to the task at hand.] The Greeter explained a little bit of how things work, here, too. I'm going to need to earn money for food and clothing and other important things, aren't I? He said it might be best to ask, um, 'my fellow Newcomers.'
[A deep breath.]
So, I wanted to ask about - jobs, I guess. And what kinds of jobs people do, and offer, and what you need to be able to do them... I've never had a job. [He does sound a little sheepish.] Sebastian always takes care of everything, and if I'm not in my home, I don't get around very easily unless I'm with a friend. So I haven't developed very many skills... I mean, I can play piano, and I can, um... turn things into stone... [For the first time, his voice is a little bit distressed.] I don't think you can do those things for money, though.
Sorry, this is kind of troubling. Some guys offered me a money loan, but I was reluctant to take it since I was in a hurry to get inside. [Sensory overload. Going from recluse to smack dab in the middle of a city was pretty startling.] If there's anything I can do, I'll be glad to try it... I don't think Sebastian anticipated me being without him or my friends, or he'd have prepared me for this kind of thing. Just - if you have any suggestions, I'd be really grateful. Really, really grateful.
—Thank you very much. I really hope that thing was on this whole time.
