[Good morning, Siren's Port. We hope you slept well last night, because at some point around ten in the morning, the network will be greeted to the sound of someone shrieking in anger at the top of their lungs. Oh, and this face in the screen:]

Where the hell is that bastard?

["Joker" is seething into the screen, eyes alight in absolute madness. His hair is flopping into his face, strings of green over his pale skin.]

Joker, you son of a bitch! Whatever you did, I demand you fix it and get the hell out of my body!

[There is an odd spectacle sitting in a park.

It appears to be Ahiru, sitting on bench. She seems to be frowning critically at her NV, though as she adjusts it, it becomes very apparent that something is very wrong.

For starters, there is a quarter empty bottle of scotch sitting next to her.

For another, there is a pistol in her lap.

And last, but not least, when she speaks, it's in a rather harsh (somewhat drunk) attitude.

Oh, let's not forget that it's with a British accent.

That's important.]

For the information of all those that I care about, I am currently trapped within the body of a little girl, because God has decided to play a lovely little trick on me. Until the moment that I am put within my host again, I have a series of requests. And as the resident ruler of the realm, you should give listening a shot, idiots.

[And Ahiru curls her fingers around the neck of the bottle.]

One, my dog needs to come here. Two, no one touches my things without the express permission of yours truly, else I will handle you personally. And third, Castiel needs to come bring me home, now, because if one more homeless man attempts to abduct me, I am going to rack up a body count that will rival World War II.

[There is a quiet pause, as she glances down at his pistol, before -- ]

And can someone fetch me a decent gun? This one appears to be made in China and we all know what good those mass-manufactured pieces of shit are.

[The NV broadcast appears to be coming from a reading room at the courthouse (for those who recognise it), and there's a rather lovely, smiling woman accompanying it, dressed smartly and looking happy.]

Well it's taken me almost three weeks to get myself onto the network which is grounds for being criminally lazy in my book, but I suppose there's no time like the present to make amends.

[Another smile, and then down to business.]

Good afternoon, my name's Mia Fey, and as of three-thirty this afternoon I'm officially licensed to practice law in the city of Siren's Port. I hope I won't have to meet many of you in a professional capacity, seeing as I'm a defense attorney, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to meeting some new faces and getting to know some of you better.

I have had enough of this preposterous nonsense! If anyone has any information - real information, mind - then I will gladly hear it! [As gladly as someone hissing like an angry cat can, anyway.

[Today, the NV turns on as the girl on the screen is walking down the produce aisle of a grocery store, though she's not necessarily looking to buy anything.]

It's been a while since I was here! I don't usually go shopping or anything like that, but I thought it would be good if I tried to get a job again since it's the summer. I don't want to just sit around, after all!

[She smiles, before something to the side catches her eye - there's a fly sitting on an apple. Alarmed, she reaches for the piece of fruit, pulling it out of the middle of the pile where it had been resting. Of course, this sends the apple just above it falling down, and when she reaches over with her other hand to grab it, she slips. The hand that had been going for the falling apple instead hits the pile as she tries to save herself from falling, but all this really accomplishes is sending a good amount of the apples onto the ground.]

Oh, oh, jeez, I didn't mean to—

[From behind, there's a gasp from an onlooker, and she casts a worried glance behind her, starting to run before promptly tripping over a fallen apple. Muffled laughter can be heard before she picks herself up, sprinting down the aisle before she thinks to turn the NV off.]

[It’s been a long month, and Raul understands that. It’s all been tiring, and with everyone sick, not a lot of work has been able to get done. He’s been working around the clock, just as much as the doctors; perhaps not on the same thing, but in the end, work was work. He’s tired, but so long as everyone else is doing their part, he will do theirs.]

I almost forgot the anniversary of my arrival here. It’s been two years since I last saw my home, but in that time, I’ve come to consider Siren’s Port my true home. It’s a place that, while acknowledging its problems, does open its arms to everyone who arrives. I’m not talking about what the original citizens of the port say, nor what they do. But this city takes us in. It provides shelter even in the darkest of times. It gives us abilities, even when it doesn’t have to; in fact, this place could have taken away several abilities from Newcomers, and instead, they have enhanced them. This is a home to so many of us, and for some, it is our only true home, now.

So when something like this outbreak decimates, not only the Newcomer population, but the port’s population as well, there is a time for sadness. There is a time for grief. Everyone has faced tremendous adversity during this past month, whether it was from the disease itself, or from those who would have sooner let Newcomers die then help their fellow man. There is a cure out there, and we are not allowed to touch it until everyone else has gotten it. Even with this terrible news, I know something that the rest of the population doesn’t; I know that we can survive. I know that we as Newcomers will survive this, and find the will to live past what many hope will be our expiration date.

And that is cause for celebration. We are all alive, and we’re slowly on our way to recovery. This past month took us all into the darkest part of our souls, showing us what we fear, and what we thought we would never be able to move past. But we did. We did. And out of all this darkness, there needs to be a beacon of light. Something for people to look forward to.

[Gives the barest of smiles.]

And that’s what the Newcomer Political Party wants to give. A celebration, that we are all still here. I’m pleased to announce the first annual NPP Block Party. For those who don’t know what a block party is, I understand that feeling. I had no idea what it was until I looked it up, myself. But a block party is much like a carnival, or a fair; they close off a block or two, and set up stalls, stages, and games, for everyone to wander around at, and have fun. The simplest explanation is: We’re throwing a party. A big party. A party that everyone can come to, not just Newcomers.

This event will be taking place on June 7th, and going on till June 10th, and will be in the block that the Newcomer Community Center is at. Since we do have to be attentive of the Darkness, this party will start at 11 am, and go till two hours before sirens; that should give plenty of time for everyone to take down their stall, and put it all into storage at the community center, before the darkness comes. This is also why we’re holding it for four days; we want everyone to come and have fun, especially on days that they are free.

But, we need help. This won’t be able to take place unless we have people willing to help out. If you wish to help, know that you won’t be working every day of the block party; like I said before, we want everyone to come and have fun. But we’re looking for people willing to help set up, to run games, to provide entertainment on our stage, to give food, to help promote the block party, and to help organize it. The NPP is also offering a deal; if you or your business want, you can rent out a stall or two from us. With your stall, you can promote your business. You can hand out fliers, you can have games, you can give out items, or food, or anything you would like.

And yes. Alcohol will be served, for those who are of legal age. [Smirks.] I hope to see you all there. This is a celebration of life, and all of you deserve to have it.

Helllooo, Port, miss me?

Oh, no need to answer, I know you did!

A month-long entr'acte and while I'm gone this whole dismal burg just sinks into despair!

[The camera focuses on his face again as he throws his head back with his hand against his brow]

So I thought to myself: "Joker, old boy, your public needs you! Time to skedaddle and turn some frowns upside down!" Then, lucky me, the guard came to get me for group therapy! Guess nobody told him that the hardcore psychotics don't do group. Or maybe he forgot, eh?

[At this the NV swings towards Larry Butz who's curled up in the corner.]

As everyone is delicately tip-toeing around what a few select people have figured out, let me spell it out for you, for the individuals who lack the brain cells to rub together.

It's guilt. The feelings of guilt. Decisions that you regret. Things you've done that you wish you could have done differently. That is what is causing you all to be so sick, why certain people are targeted and certain people are supposedly immune.

If anything, you should stop feeling sorry for yourselves and start wondering why, exactly, some people are so healthy. Those are probably the people you should be watching warily -- because I doubt they're all saints.

In other news, Castiel is in a coma, which I'm sure is a grand surprise to all that know him and have connected piece A with piece B. Stop texting him and calling him. I'm going to feed the NV to my dog shortly if it keeps going off.

The first person to suggest that I take him to a hospital will have their throat cut.

Continue panicking at your leisure. I am going to return to my work.

[Mary has been crying. Obviously, unattractively, ugly-crying; the evidence is still all over her face. It's an unflattering look on top of how visibly sick she is, looking pale and feverish and miserable. She's sitting in a hospital room in Skye, curled up in a chair squished uncomfortably into the corner. The narrow space between the chair and the actual hospital bed is taken up by one of those fold-out cots they have for family members, smushing her into the corner, forcing her to curl up with her knees to her chest in the chair.

That's the thing, though. The cot is empty. The hospital bed is empty.

There's a long silence, until you almost wonder if this is an accidental post, in which she just stares past the camera, worrying a silver charm bracelet on her wrist.]

It's killing people. I haven't seen it in the news yet, but it's killing people. The guy in the morgue said everything was quiet this morning. Now it's a rush. [She bursts into a violent coughing fit, looking slightly green.] I talked them out of kicking us out of the room- but Jesus Christ, how am I supposed to sleep in here, you know?

[Suddenly she seems to realize how awkwardly she's oversharing, and pulls herself together a little, rubbing her eyes and running her hands through her hair. Despite outwardly getting it together, she's still obviously hanging on by a thread, something dull and brittle in her eyes.]

If you know me, please- let someone know that you're alright. If you don't, if we've never spoken... I don't care, I still wanna know that you're okay. So many people in this city are alone.

[There’s something distinctly wrong, very wrong in the room when Xion wakes up this morning. It’s too quiet, too still. Blue is licking her hand, her rough little tongue like sandpaper against her fingers, and in the hazy moments where sleep transfers to wakefulness, Xion stretches and coughs, her chest still feeling tight from this strange sickness. She sits up slowly, lets the accompanying dizziness subside before she scoops up Blue and starts her descent down the ladder to the floor. She sets the kitten down on the floor, letting her little cat out to start her day by pouncing on Xact’s tail- probably- and she quietly lets herself out to use the bathroom and cough and splutter away without worrying about waking her roommate.

A few minutes later, and carrying a box of tissues, Xion’s back and Naminé hasn’t moved. Xion goes to Naminé’s bedside and gently nudges her on the shoulder to see if she’s awake and in need of anything.

Naminé is very still. She’s always been quiet, but this morning it’s too much. Her shoulder feels cold, and that doesn’t feel right. Naminé’s been feverish all weekend, Xion has been bringing her cold flannels to put on her head to help her cool off. She shouldn’t be so cold. Her face is very pale from what she can see of it poking out from under her blankets.

It takes a moment for Xion to realise that Naminé isn’t breathing and she’s not waking up.

The shock sends her reeling backwards, knocking into the trash bin. Tissues go falling over the carpet. Xion’s head is spinning, everything seems to be buzzing in her ears. What should she do, what should she do?

She grabs her NV, acting on instinct, she doesn’t know what to do what should she do she can’t do anything Naminé won’t wake up, she won’t wake up, it’s not working.

Frantically she switches to video.]

[Two very familiar doctors are at the Newcomer Clinic, which has recently been stocked with lots of boxes of syringes, non-latex gloves, blankets, tissues, and the standard issue hospital masks. Doctor Tenma has a mask around his neck, something that he could easily pull up for the next patient. There’s some gloves hanging around his stethoscope, too, the same with Doctor Yumeno.]

I think everyone knows by now that there’s some kind of virus going around. It presents itself like the flu, and it’s spreading pretty fast.

[Tenma looks at Daedalus, who looks at the camera.]

We're here to advise you on the basics. Stay rested and well-hydrated, this is especially important if you are losing fluids to fever or vomiting. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used to reduce a fever.

[Tenma moves one of the boxes aside, a package filled with prescription bottles.]

From what we’ve heard, there might be a shortage of these drugs at local pharmacies. We do have some supply here at the newcomer clinic, if you need to stop by. If fever lasts for longer than 3 days, or if you begin coughing up blood, give one of us, or the Clinic, a call.

[Daedalus gives a small nod at the camera, hands folded on the table.]

If your temperature rises above 104°F, you'll want to come to the emergency room at either Siren's Port General, or Skye Medical Center. Skye's walk-in clinic is open even during darkness, but...it's very crowded now, you can expect to be waiting for several hours. If you're not experiencing severe symptoms, it's probably a better idea to stay home and in bed.

Please be careful to avoid heavily congested public places, such as public transportation, the mall, stadium, movie theaters, all of those kind of things. Be sure you're washing hands, especially before preparing or handling food.

[Tenma points to the mask around his neck.]

Also, it might be wise to pick up one of these hospital masks, so if you go into a crowded place, it’s just an extra protection against breathing in any germs. We have a lot of boxes of them at the Clinic, so if you want, you can stop by and pick one or two up.

[Daedalus speaks up again.]

As of right now, SERO's Disease Control Division has noted symptoms surfacing rapidly among many newcomers and local citizens alike, over the past 48 hours. They have advised that hospitals treat this as an outbreak-level threat. They are the Island's leading source of information on epidemiology breakthroughs, and we at SPGH and Skye are receiving hourly developments from each of the hospitals, which are in open communication with one another.

We'll be keeping you updated with relevant information as it develops on our end, if we can beat the news media to it. We'd also like to be aware of the resources available to newcomers. You can come here to the clinic for basic over-the-counter medical supplies. We've purchased them in bulk, and have them here, so you can skip the lines at the drug store.

[Tenma smiles reassuringly at the camera.]

We’re not trying to scare you or anything by all of this, by the way. We just want to keep everyone healthy, so if you need anything, you can call any of the doctors from the Newcomer Clinic, or myself, or Doctor Yumeno, 24/7. That's all we have for now, so be safe, Siren's Port!
