The body of a young man discovered in a back alley in Sector 8 late yesterday afternoon has been positively identified as newcomer Franz d'Epinay. D'Epinay had failed to return home from running errands before sirens, and had been reported as missing by his boyfriend the night before. Evidence suggests that d'Epinay engaged in a struggle and may even have tased his attacker. His wallet and other valuables were untouched, but a Joker playing card was found on his person. Cause of death was determined to be a stab wound on the neck, where the carotid artery was raptured and the victim bled out quickly. The victim had also been stabbed on the arm and chest. The playing card found on the scene is the 'signature' of the notorious escaped convict, the Joker, but police are not ruling out the potential a copycat.
"Usually," said one of the first officers to arrive on the scene, who spoke to reporters on the promise of anonyminity, "There's a kind of twisted humor to his crimes. Not too long ago he buried some doctor up to his neck before nightfall - horrible, but kind of funny. This just seems to be senseless, random violence. These newcomers are some messed up folks."
Though only 18, d'Epinay served as personal assistant to founder of the Newcomer Political Party, Raul Creed, and was personally involved with many of its projects. D'epinay had resided in the city for nearly two years.
Police warn that the killer is still at large, and remind citizens to act with caution and to avoid isolated areas unaccompanied. The murder is thought to have occurred in broad daylight, though no witnesses have stepped forward. Anyone with further information is asked to promptly contact SPPD.
