[When the feed comes on the scene it shows would be normal, if it weren't for a couple of key elements being rather off. Astrid is at the forefront of it all, cleaning off a rather sharp bloody looking knife with a cloth. There are some ripped up cloth bandages, some of them bloody, strewn along the top of the kitchen table she's sitting at. Off to her side is a rather pale looking Hiccup, one of his arms bandaged up in the same cloth strips. It isn't very hard to make the connection.

That isn't the only strange thing though - on Hiccup's forehead there seems to be stuck a bright yellow post-it note, with some runes scribbled on it. He looks a little miserable and sick, but Astrid herself seems healthy as ever. She takes only a moment more before adjusting the angle of the feed before sitting back entirely, continuing to clean the blade as she speaks.]

There really is a lot of sickness going around, isn't there? It's pretty unnerving. I figured either Hiccup or I would catch it, so I decided to be prepared. Good thing too, considering I was right and Hiccup did end up sick.

[Sliding the knife through the cloth one more time, she holds it up to her eyes closely for inspection before deeming it blood free, before tossing it onto the table with a little too much force, causing Hiccup to wince at the noise it makes.]

Like my mom used to always teach me, the best way to be on the offense of an illness is to go on the defense. That's why I've been praying to Eir every day extra hard. I even caught a goose in the park and sacrificed it to her when Hiccup got sick, just for good measure. I told Hiccup to pray too, but I guess he didn't pray enough.

[At that Hiccup rolls his eyes, but shoots Astrid a grimace of a smile when she glances his way.]

But it's alright. He'll get better and he already has started to feel better, haven't you Hiccup? [There's a nod, but...it isn't that enthusiastic.] I've put the proper runes on him, bled him a little bit, fed him garlic and even made him medicine out of herbs. I think the elder of our village would be pretty proud of me right now.

Anyway, I've been carving a few charms out of wood since they're better than post-it notes and last longer, and was wondering if anyone who's sick would like one. I can also help bleed you if you'd like. I'm really good at holding people down, even if they struggle!

So, let me know, alright?

[ooc: Both Hiccup and Astrid will be replying to your comments! Don't pity Hiccup though. He feels sorry enough for himself already. 8|]

Weather A mix of cloud and sun. Rain developing overnight. High 17°C and a low of 10°C (63deg;F/50°F)

Current Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous

Morning sirens go off at 5:16am, and evening sirens are at 9:04pm.

Monster Warning: A rainy night means plenty of slippery Oozes will be sliding around in the gutters. A new type, possibly related to the latest round of flu victims to stumble deliriously into the streets after siren, appears to be composed of sentient snotty mucus and vomit.

- SERO HAS CURE!
ALL CORPORATE AND GOVERNMENT HEALTH RESOURCES READYING FOR MASS PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION IMMEDIATELY

SERO Hospital and Labs announced late last night that after tireless days in the laboratory and the help of hundreds of employees, company affiliates and brave volunteers with extraordinary powers and manpower necessary for testing the serum’s effectiveness, they have successfully developed a fast-acting antiviral agent to counteract ‘Culpa-flu’, the disease which has ravaging Siren’s Port population over the last three weeks.

With just one dose of the injected serum, which is said to fully impede the virus’s replication within just a few hours, and patients should expect to see relief from symptoms quickly, possibly in just a day’s time. “An inoculation for those who have not yet been infected is on the way too. In the meantime, we’re keeping patients quarantined until they show signs of full recovery.” SERO Hospital has already formulated several hundred batches of the medication and has treated all admitted patients with the serum in record time, before this morning’s sirens and announcements of the cure’s success even hit the press.

The City Board of Health expressed surprise that SERO had moved ahead with cure distribution among its own patients before receiving government stamp of approval, but official shrugged their shoulders and cheered this morning in support of SERO’s typical cavalier approach to advanced medicine, pouring funding and government human resources at full steam ahead for mass manufacture and safe distribution.

Skye Medical Center and SPGH are expected to receive limited doses later today, which will be given first to those in critical condition. The emergency quarantine set up at the stadium will also be receiving the antiviral as soon as additional doses can be produced.

Eberhardt Institute of Psychiatric Research is still working with neurologists from Siren’s Port General Hospital to confirm the strange causal relationship between nanomachines found in the brain tissue of secondary index cases and rumors that “feelings of guilt” increase susceptibility to the virus.

Surprisingly, even newcomers have had a hand in researching and discovering the cure, as Doctor Watson and McCoy were caught briefly today for a statement, optimistic for the cure’s effectiveness

"I don't know what sort of side show miracle piss-water elixir those idiots have been trying to push off on the public until now,” said Dr. McCoy, of last week’s false alarm hope for a cure in the psychotropic treatment Foboxitin. “...but this is the only thing that's going to kick this virus in the ass and keep it down."

[Compared to a lot of the Port this month, Keigo's been in good health, and only has to sniffle and cough a few times during his post. Life with a rampaging guilt sickness is pretty easy when you blame everyone else for your problems.]

What's the point of making new friends here when they all leave you behind? First Kazuma. Now Takuto's gone.

So who's next? Anyone else want to make friends with me so you can go home and forget all about me later?

[A very over-tired Dr. Yumeno has a bleary moment in Skye Medical breakroom, to turn on his NV and address the network with some wearied satisfaction. He looks like he hasn't caught more than catnaps in about a week, dressed in scrubs, a surgical mask pulled down onto his chin.]

SERO's come through well. A breakthrough much quicker than we anticipated, and ... yet not a moment too soon.

Congratulations are due to my colleagues who were able to be a little more involved in the process. We're very grateful for the good news. I'm considering the benefits of trying to get back into research medical and gene vector therapy myself, after seeing just how desperately the Port needs solutions in the field, to advance and adapt medicine for special needs.

Skye has limited resources for that- as those of you who've been with us can probably tell, it's been sort of a patient care zoo. We've been sorely understaffed, and that has shown in lack of patience, supplies, and time. [He winces, this is not something he's looking forward to bringing up, but there's something dogged in his eyes.]

On that note I'd like to apologize on behalf of any incidents I haven't been able to attend to personally. I've had my hands full, and I haven't been able to check in on the status of Newcomer patients as I would usually. If there are any more horror stories floating around of orderlies refusing to change out sheets or bring meals around to you, believe me when I say that as soon as there is time on my hands, I will be bringing that up as unacceptable staff conduct. If I'm to the be mouthy little newcomer tattler doctor on staff- well, they haven't sacked me yet and I may as well go down fighting for the things I set out to change here.

If
there has been any discrimination going on, if anyone has been denied the basic rights of public health care, I urge you to seek legal representation here on the network and also to give me some idea of what was going on and where, so I can speak to my own supervisors as an advocate on your behalf.

But I'm sure what you're all waiting to hear about is cure distribution procedures, so I'm going to address that for a bit-

Skye Medical's just received the first batch of the injection serum an hour ago, and SERO promises more at both city hospitals as soon as they can manufacture it. As far as I'm aware, SPGH is following the same distribution procedure, in needs-based triage stages: first to our patients in critical care, then to hospitalized patients by order of day of admission .... except admitted newcomers without previous medical records, who will likely receive the last batch before going to stage 3, public distribution at the Hospital Walk-in Clinics and the Stadium Quarantine. [That exception does not sit well, by the way his mouth is pursed]

I've been on the phone with the city CDC for the last hour, and it seems we've also been slated last for cure distribution at the Newcomer Center Clinic. I've been told we can expect to receive limited dosages June 6th at the earliest, and that we must shell out for it ourselves as a private health care provider.  ....nevermind that we are non-profit!

So- [There is a briskness to his abrupt sigh, a thinly veiled frustration. It has been a very trying hour on the phone.] My advice to those of you still waiting for the cure at home is to wait till the second day of Stage 3 release, which they're tentatively forecasting for June 3rd or 4th. Come to Skye Medical's 24 hr clinic, or SPGH's public distribution center. Arrive early after morning siren, be prepared to wait. While in line, if you are questioned by anyone other than a medical professional about your citizen status, please try your damnedest to pass yourself off as a local. [ Disgusted, Daedalus looks aside.]   (Two years, and this is what 'progress' gets us...)

Thank you again for bearing with us. I'm trying my best. I'll be available for a little while, to answer any questions.
