- New Superflu Strain in the City? SERO Disease Control Center Intervenes

After multiple reports of sick patients crowding private doctor’s offices and health clinics with flu-like symptoms, SERO’s leading Epidemiologists are beginning to suspect Siren’s Port has a serious new strain of disease on its hands.

Annual Influenza vaccinations, available free to all affiliates and for a small cost to non-affiliates, have not proven effective against preventing this particular strain. Many crowding the clinics yesterday claimed they have already received the vaccine earlier this year.

One severe case was so dehydrated and feverish that he needed to be immediately hospitalized and transferred to SERO hospital, cutting short his honeymoon getaway at White Star Hotel. His new bride tearfully told reporters that her life has been nothing but misery and a mess of vomit, ever since the wedding last Saturday.

Citizens are advised to keep children home from school if they are exhibiting symptoms of fever, nausea, congestion and body aches.

[Pearl Fey’s emotions don’t always show easily, but when they do, they’re usually related to ~~ships~~ Maya Fey. And while there are exceptions, today’s not one of them. The sullen, sad look that crosses her face today is definitely caused by circumstances involving her favorite cousin - as well as their roommate, Mr. Armando.

Anyway, she’s sitting on a bench in what looks like a hospital corridor. That’s already bad news, isn’t it? She frowns very deeply (pretzels drooping) and shakes her head sadly at the camera.]

Mystic Maya and Mr. Armando became very sick yesterday. We got them to the doctors safely, but...

[After a moment’s pause, she shakes her head fiercely from side to side!] I’m going to do my best to help the doctors make sure they’re comfortable! I’m still very -- [sneeze!] -- I’m still mostly healthy, and I’m going to stay by their side until they get better.

… Um, does anybody know about Mr. Armando’s pet kitty? and Mystic Maya’s bird! Vladimir and Artemis need to be fed, but I can’t go between the apartment and the hospital by myself. The plants need to be watered, too! [Someone please help a fretting girl out.]

[And then, drooping again, before she shuts off the video.] Poor Mystic Maya... poor Mr. Armando. I should have been more alert...

[Like so many others over the course of the last few days, Gilbert appears on the screen looking as though he's lived through much healthier days. His face is pale and flushed, and his voice is strained and heavy with congestion. But that's not what he's come on to talk about this early-evening.]

[ Starting up his feed a touch too early, Angel's pushing his NV back to balance against something, before he leans comfortably into an office chair, seated as he is behind a desk. It's not entirely clear where he is exactly, but the place isn't the most well lit. Also, don't mind the fact that he's a severe case of sniffles -- it's going around, nobody should be surprised. ]

I meant to do this earlier but I've been dealing with some other things that needed to be handled first and foremost. Now that they've been taken care, if I have a question for everyone.

[ he probably sounds a little too serious; he's used to addressing a law firm, his team, but not a city at large. ] I need someone who's got a history of running a club. Who knows how to deal with the entertainment side of a business, and can run the show but doesn't mind someone taking care of everything behind the scenes. I can't plan theme nights and I don't really do well dealing with a crowd, but if anyone's looking for a job in helping to run a vampire bar, Fangtasia for those of you who know it, I need your help.

Don't really want the place to go out of business, wouldn't be fair to the clientele.

Whatever this is that's going around. Has anyone found a cure for it? Any relief? Done anything that's managed to get the fever down at all? The vomiting to stop?

At this point, I'm not going to judge how unorthodox the cure might be, anything to get a bit of relief would be absolutely brilliant.

One of my hearts stopped this morning. So the sooner I can get a response, the better.

[For the record? He's not okay. He hasn't managed to eat in a day, has a fever that would equal brain damage in a human, it's hard to breathe, he's bordering on delirium and... well. As said, one of his hearts went out. And that has him in a sort of desperate mood. He's failing at finding a cure on his own - which is strange in and of itself - so... yeah. He's getting kind of desperate.]

Diane, it's... 6:36 pm on May 17, 2012. By my calculation, that means I've been asleep for... two hundred and seventy-nine months. Twenty-three years have passed since my last recording, Diane, and I have to say: I look pretty great for my age.

The last time I remember speaking to you, it was from the floor of my room at the Great Northern Hotel and I had just been shot. I don't remember a whole lot else, but the doctors tell me I've lost quite a bit of blood so that's to be expected. I feel both frustrated and grateful. Grateful to be alive, and frustrated because the investigation is facing yet another setback.

"Setback" may be an understatement. Diane, you are not going to believe this. As I just told you, it's been twenty-three years. That's twenty-three years in the blink of an eye. They tell me I've traveled through time, and that's apparently a common occurrence around here. Here being the city of Siren's Port, Canada - that's an island off the coast to the west of Vancouver, Diane. Have you ever heard of a place like that? I sure haven't.

The frustrating part is that my ticket was one-way. Preferable, yes, to the other one-way ticket I was facing - but gosh I really felt it. I was on the verge of something. Will I ever know who killed Laura Palmer?

[There's a pause and murmuring in the background, along with the squeaking of a cart being rolled into the room.]

- Ah, more on that later, Diane. Nurse Irene is here.

Alright, so, no matter how much I don't want to be here, it doesn't seem like getting out is much of an option right now.

I've also noticed some people are getting sick around here, so, I've been staying inside as much as I can.

[There's a small pause, and papers moving around can be heard momentarily.]

[Two very familiar doctors are at the Newcomer Clinic, which has recently been stocked with lots of boxes of syringes, non-latex gloves, blankets, tissues, and the standard issue hospital masks. Doctor Tenma has a mask around his neck, something that he could easily pull up for the next patient. There’s some gloves hanging around his stethoscope, too, the same with Doctor Yumeno.]

I think everyone knows by now that there’s some kind of virus going around. It presents itself like the flu, and it’s spreading pretty fast.

[Tenma looks at Daedalus, who looks at the camera.]

We're here to advise you on the basics. Stay rested and well-hydrated, this is especially important if you are losing fluids to fever or vomiting. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used to reduce a fever.

[Tenma moves one of the boxes aside, a package filled with prescription bottles.]

From what we’ve heard, there might be a shortage of these drugs at local pharmacies. We do have some supply here at the newcomer clinic, if you need to stop by. If fever lasts for longer than 3 days, or if you begin coughing up blood, give one of us, or the Clinic, a call.

[Daedalus gives a small nod at the camera, hands folded on the table.]

If your temperature rises above 104°F, you'll want to come to the emergency room at either Siren's Port General, or Skye Medical Center. Skye's walk-in clinic is open even during darkness, but...it's very crowded now, you can expect to be waiting for several hours. If you're not experiencing severe symptoms, it's probably a better idea to stay home and in bed.

Please be careful to avoid heavily congested public places, such as public transportation, the mall, stadium, movie theaters, all of those kind of things. Be sure you're washing hands, especially before preparing or handling food.

[Tenma points to the mask around his neck.]

Also, it might be wise to pick up one of these hospital masks, so if you go into a crowded place, it’s just an extra protection against breathing in any germs. We have a lot of boxes of them at the Clinic, so if you want, you can stop by and pick one or two up.

[Daedalus speaks up again.]

As of right now, SERO's Disease Control Division has noted symptoms surfacing rapidly among many newcomers and local citizens alike, over the past 48 hours. They have advised that hospitals treat this as an outbreak-level threat. They are the Island's leading source of information on epidemiology breakthroughs, and we at SPGH and Skye are receiving hourly developments from each of the hospitals, which are in open communication with one another.

We'll be keeping you updated with relevant information as it develops on our end, if we can beat the news media to it. We'd also like to be aware of the resources available to newcomers. You can come here to the clinic for basic over-the-counter medical supplies. We've purchased them in bulk, and have them here, so you can skip the lines at the drug store.

[Tenma smiles reassuringly at the camera.]

Hello, citizens of Siren’s Port!

[There is a face nearly pressed up against the camera, a large blinking green eye at first, and then she pulls back a little to reveal an excited grin. It’s a cute little girl with fluffy silver hair and round cheeks.]

I heard that you have a monster problem here and I, Nyarlathotep, have come to help!

[Give her a moment as she strikes a cute superhero pose that may look familiar to some people. The pose doesn’t last long, though, before it’s dropped and she cups her face, cheeks red with faux embarrassment.]

Now you’re all probably either wondering what I can possibly do to combat the Darkness, or for the more well-read out there, wondering if I am who I claim to be! For the people who can’t pronounce that name, you can all call me Nyaruko (or Nyaruko Yasaka, because that last name belongs to the boy of my dreams!), and I’m here to provide services to combat your Darkness! You see, I’ve been sent by the Space Defense Agency to keep Earth safe, and wow, they never told me about this place and how much trouble you guys seem to have gotten into! I’ve never seen such a large infestation in my life-- in fact, I’m surprised that you’re all still alive still, and some people have been here their whole lives?

[She looks so very excited by that concept, face pressed against the camera again.]

Well, I’m here to help you fight the Darkness and in the meanwhile, I’d like to hear all about your adventures here! And I’d like to know where all your video shops are. I know renting is a little outdated, but I never thought I’d end up in a new area that wouldn’t accept my reward points. How many shows do the local channels carry, anyway? Ooooh, are there any shows exclusive to this place alone? Books? Comics? I want to know all about it!
