[A shadow falls over the previously lovely view of an overcast sky. It's soon evident that this "shadow" holds more substance as two large green eyes peer down, right before you get a generous view of curiously snuffing nostrils.

The creature's head draws back again, head tilting in almost a comical fashion as it peers at the camera's source once again.

Then, it promptly opens its toothless jaws wide, head darting forth, and just before it snatches up the NV, two rows of teeth appear.

...You'd think it should end there, but instead, you're treated to some unpleasant chewing and smacking sounds, paired with glimpses of a pink tongue amidst teeth that seem to be trying their hardest to tear the NV apart. This lasts for about thirty seconds before it's finally ends with a wet splat as the screen flares back into brightness, having been spat out on the ground.

A rather disappointed and somewhat annoyed looking dragon growls at it in complaint.

[The sound of a startled gasp, a flash of brown eyes under a thick mop of dark hair.

It's a small twelve-year old girl pushing herself up from the dirt of the diamond and looking around in obvious panic at the dugouts and the city beyond. As her gaze flies wildly around it comes to land on the NV and she visibly starts.

Then slowly she reaches for it -- something has obviously clued her in that the NV is meant for her.

A blur of motion, the vision of the city rushing past and the sound of her feet hitting the pavement as she sprints away, veering sharply from any passersby.

The feed ends.]

[[ooc: Replies will come an hour or two after the initial IC time of posting, Rue won't be examining and figuring out her NV until she's found somewhere to hide.]]

[Amy is at her piano today, not playing, but she seems to be looking longingly at the keys. Since it's daytime, her manner is sluggish-- as if she stayed up all night, when in truth she didn't.]

People come and go often in this place. I've seen so much of it that it doesn't faze me that much. It seems that there are many new voices on the network, however. It would be a pleasure to make new acquaintances when possible.

I would not mind hearing from those I have met before as well. I apologize for my silence. Things have been rough at the library where I work in.

[When the feed comes on it seems to show Nana, pink hair, horns and all, sitting in a chair in what appears to be a school office. She's alone for the time being and doesn't seem to look sad. If anything, she looks rather grave.]

Nana got in trouble today. Nana knows that Nana did something bad, but the boys Nana did bad things to deserved them.

[Her brows seem to furrow then as she stares at the screen of her NV.]

They're always mean to Nana! These two boys. Just because Nana has horns and Nana's arms sometimes fall off. They'll steal Nana's arms sometimes and run away laughing. It's not fair. They call Nana a monster and weird when Nana is not a monster or weird. Nana is just...different. Just because Nana isn't human doesn't mean Nana doesn't have feelings or that Nana is stupid. Nana isn't.

[She sighs then, staring up at the ceiling for a moment before turning her attention back to the NV.]

Today was a bad day. Usually Nana is good and will ignore them. Nana will not be bad and hit them back or call them names, but...today was bad. Today the two boys were throwing rocks at a squirrel during recess and one of them hit the squirrel. It fell to the ground hurt and sad and one of the boys stepped on its head, killing it. Nana tried to stop them and Nana yelled but...they didn't stop. They threw the dead squirrel at Nana instead.

So Nana threw them both up into the tree and made them fall out of the tree. One boy broke his arm and the other hurt his head but Nana doesn't care. They deserved it for what they did. No one should kill something that is living. Every life is special. Nana understands people kill animals to eat them but they weren't killing the squirrel to eat it - they were hurting it for no reason. They were being cruel.

Now Nana is in trouble and Uncle Raul is going to be cross and disappointed in Nana. Nana is just as bad now because Nana hurt the two boys but Nana thinks that's not fair. They killed the squirrel - Nana didn't kill them.

Nana did a bad thing...but Nana isn't sorry.

[There is over the line the faint whisper of fingers smoothing across the pages of a bound tome. In waiting for the ammunition in the moulds to set and cool, he had taken to reading over old and familiar writings-- and in his present solitude, had elected to share his reading with any who might be listening over the network.]

When I told her that I must go at once, and that I was engaged on important business, she asked again: Do you know what day it is? I answered that it was the fourth of May. She shook her head as she said again. Oh, yes! I know that, I know that! But do you know what day it is?

On my saying that I did not understand, she went on. It is the eve of St. George's Day. Do you not know that to-night, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil in the world will have full sway? Do you know where you are going, and what you are going to?

[The soft thud of a closing book is barely audible over the transmission. To the observant listener, it would be obvious as to why he selected this particular text at this particular hour; tonight was the fourth of May, and it was closing in on midnight.

Walter Dornez had a peculiarly twisted sense of humour.]

It's been a while since I've read from that. I wonder, are there any superstitions about certain days where any of you come from?
