Sector 8 Burglary Busts; Vigilante Bat to Blame for Accidental Shooting
With a significant bounty still on his head, the vigilante who calls himself 'Batman' is still at large following an incident in the Industrial centre of the city last night. Allegedly the costumed vigilante assaulted and contained four criminals after they had broken into a warehouse containing high end electronic equipment. The criminals - among them having previous for larceny, fraud and grand theft auto - were on the verge of being freed on grounds of chain of custody, but made full confessions as to their intentions at the prospect of being released.
A police spokesman explained: "They were terrified. Not of us, of the Batman. The sooner that freak is caught, the sooner we can get back to proper policing. Nobody should have to live in fear like this. Besides which he just makes us look bad."
The landlord of an apartment where Batman threw down on a drug bust last week was similarly eager to complain: "Can't rent out any of the places here, not even at half the price. God damn bat's bad for business."
Bad for business is certainly true in the case of Elaine Ellis of Aladdin's Antiques in Sector 2. Two days ago she shot her boss, Quinn Myers, clipping his thigh and making a permanent hole in his wing (he now flies with a discernible whistle). Stranded alone at night in the shop, she claimed that she had shot at him because she "thought he looked like that bat guy from the news". In fact Myers had come back so that Ellis didn't have to be alone, and so that he could win a few more dashing hero points with his attractive employee. "There's only one thing worse than the Darkness monsters," Myers said. "And that's a hot chick with a baretta."
- Today is a civic observational day of mourning, which commemorates workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace related hazards and incidents. The purpose of the day is twofold- to remember and honour those lives lost or injured, and to renew the commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace - to prevent further deaths, injuries and diseases from work.
Both AGI and SERO release a short press statement early in the day, professing regret for deaths and injury associated with each company, but neither makes any particularly bold statement about workman’s comp- although SERO does make several notable remarks about AGI’s lack of comprehensive health benefits for their affiliates. Some of AGI’s ‘regrets’ for the unfortunate deaths of its former employees appear to be more like thinly veiled ‘this could be you’ threats.
- GRAND THEFT OTTO: A public hearing before the juvenile court is set for Monday morning, April 30, at 8:45 A.M. in the case of a 16-year-old male newcomer accused of Taking Without Consent the vehicle of Siren's Port lifelong resident Otto Grün. Bail was initially set for $1200 and was paid in full, however the city has decided to detain the youth again without bail until the hearing, due to his initial release culminating in publicly urinating on the city's municipal building. Furthermore, release after the penalties have been set will include the condition of a responsible guardianship, after it was determined that the youth has been living unsupervised. Misdemeanor charges are expected to be brought and upheld against the young man, who (prior to being advised against doing so by opposing counsel) had already publicly confessed to the crime. Due to the defendant's status as a minor, his name has been withheld from the press by the city authority.
