[ He's speaking a little slowly, the bitterness properly enunciated in the slight tipsy slur to his voice. ]

… You know. I wasn't going to think anything of it, I have way better things to be working on and thinking about, but the more I think about it the more it's really burning me up. I mean, I really wasn't going to think anything of it but then--

[ He clicks his tongue and pauses to take another sip of whatever he's drinking. ]

I think that's really great. Really. My dad never remembered my birthday and he always blamed it on the leap year, but -- but my birthday's the twenty-eighth, that's just bullshit, right? I -- I, um -- it's so stupid, I don't even know if they remember either because I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be dead--

[ There's a clink as something breaks, and apparently spills as well. ]

Oopsie. What was I saying? Oh -- no, the worst part is I forgot about my birthday too! [ He laughs a little, quiet and forced and slightly whimpery. ] Usually Liz says it to me in the morning, but…

'm not sure what I'm trying to say actually. I'm just giving myself a headache.

[ He's lying on the couch listlessly, but he looks up when he hears the door open. ]

[ she'll be walking over to him and then immediately sitting down on the couch beside him in what little space he's leaving, putting down the bags and box on the coffee table. ]

I got Thai. Is that good with you?

Yeah. [ He sits up, rubbing his head. ] Thanks.

[ starting to open up the take-out boxes ]

Getting there. [ He drinks some more water from a glass. ] It'll probably take a little while.

[ putting some meat in his rice box thing idk ]

You have every reason to be upset, by the way. It was really crappy of us.

Thanks for the permission. I'm really trying to hold less grudges these days, anger's just... a poison. [ He sighs. ] Like alcohol.

[ handing him his rice box now ]

It was just kind of really scary to see you that upset. I thought you might -- [ vague hand gesture ] -- I'm just really glad nothing bad came out of this.

It wasn't you guys. Not completely. That would be cr-- stupid. [ He opens the box, looking at it and not at her. ] It's not worth worrying about.

It has to do with you and you're my friend. So yeah, it's worth worrying about.

[ taking her own now and picking up a fork ]

[ He nods a little idly. As much as it would be nice to talk to MJ, he's not sure about unleashing all his issues on a teenager. ]

You should tell me a little bit about where you come from. I don't know if I've asked.

[ she definitely looks more than a little thrown off ]

Well, um. It's just New York.... you know, Queens. Crappy and and smelly. Nothing out of the ordinary.

[ staring down at her food now.... ]

I mean... the people.

[ another awkward pause jesus ]

Uhm.... I guess it's hard to explain. They're like anyone else? I mean -- a lot of people are really bigoted at home though. And scared.... But it's understandable. And I guess that could apply anywhere too.

What about Peter? Or... [ Or you... ] Gwen? Or Liz. What's Liz like?

[ she actually smiles ]

Liz is amazing. She's my best friend, you know? She's always been there for me. She's so friendly and great to be around and just, everyone loved her. I don't really see her anymore since she went with the X-Men though.

I can't believe your Liz is a mutant. That's so [ He's about to say "weird" but then decides something that doesn't sound potentially discriminatory might be better. ] ... surprising. What did she do?

Oh, she bursts into flames! [ waving her hands around to demonstrate ] Like Johnny! She can fly and everything -- it's so cool!

[ He looks kind of startled. ]

Like Mark? [ He doesn't even consider that MJ might not know who that is. ] Actually, I don't know if he can fly.

Weird is an understatement. Good for her, though. He's not the most reasonable of people most of the time.
