[So it does happen on occasion that Sora likes to play Sherlock. This particular evening, inspiration strikes while in the midst of training exercises in the woods (taught to him some time ago by a certain blue haired master). His hair's a little mussed, outfit slightly askew. But here's something new! Sora's sporting some new duds: At the moment, his left arm's covered in what appears to be some well-crafted armor.]

I've been thinking... Back in my world, there used to things called Gates that helped get you from place to place. Thing is, they weren't all that easy to find, and they didn't just open for anybody or for any reason.

Only, if I'm right, I just might know a way to make this work!

[Hence, his next question. It's completely relevant to the previous matter, he promises:]

What's most important to you? What's something you guys just can't go without?

[Tell the sixteen year old about your precious items, Siren's Port. So he can ask to see it. Toss it in the air. Point a weapon at it.]

[It'll turn out just fine.]

[Probably.]

Believe me, it was a huge pain. We had to go through the hallways and they were always packed with heartless. Statues and gargoyles and all sorts of enemies.

Hey, you should feel lucky I took some of them out for you ahead of time. [Joking...?] At least you didn't have to sneak around those clock and candle guys.

Clock and Candle guys... I don't remember any heartless like that?

No, they lived there. Them and that beast and the pretty girl.

Ooohh... [A laugh.] I know who you're talking about! You mean Lumiere and Cogsworth?

I guess? I don't know. We never really met.

The shorter one that looks like a clock is Cogsworth. He's kind of easy to rile up.

And the other one, the candle? He's Lumiere. Real friendly guy.

How'd you even find that passage anyhow?

They're tough to dodge, that's all I know.

If you push the statues in the courtyard to the right spots, it opens automatically. I couldn't get in the front door and something was off about them, so...

Are you serious!? Now I've gotta go and see for myself!

[Sure there was only dust and heartless, but man. How could he miss that the first time around?]

You probably will someday.

Was everything okay there? They were having some trouble handling all the Heartless last I saw.

All taken care of! It was kind of tough for a while when Xaldin started messing with Beast's feelings, but Cogsworth helped and we managed to snap him out of it.

Xaldin even tried to steal the rose, but Belle managed to get it back.

[He grins, just remembering the look on her face.]

[And suddenly there's guilt, which may or may not show on his face.

Not that he can feel it, of course.]

Yeah, Xaldin was really interested in the Beast.

Bit that's good.

He tried to turn Beast against all his friends.

We think he wanted to make a Nobody out of him.

[In the beginning, it was difficult to read Roxas. Sora would end up misunderstanding what he saw, or even worse, not seeing anything at all in Roxas. But now... he's starting to pick up on little things. He's starting to feel more than see that something is wrong.]

What's up, Roxas?

Probably. Since we were down a few members.

[He fidgets a little, not wanting to say it but not willing to lie.]

A lot of the times I went to that castle, it was with Xaldin. He had me look for information on the people there. It probably helped him out later.

[Oohh. So that's what that look was. He feels guilty for it. Guy could use a little reassurance]

It all turned out fine in the end. Belle's okay. So is Beast and the others.

[He nods, and guilt eases into relief.]

Good.

He looked like a tough guy. I never spoke to him, but one time this group of Heartless attacked the bridge to the castle. They were really dangerous, and he tried to fight them all by himself.

[Of course, they threw him over the wall. But it's the thought that counts.]

You better believe it. He ended up crossing worlds just because his heart was that strong! He was trying to find Belle.

He also gave me strength when I needed it.

[That was... not a good time for Sora.]

Crossing worlds? By himself? When was that?

[It's one memory he never got.]

[And for once, Sora's the one who finds it a little hard to talk about.]

It was a long time ago, when me and Riku were still fighting.

Back when it was still called Hollow Bastion. There were only heartless there, then.

[An eerie sensation crawls down Roxas' spine as Sora speaks. He had never known that world, can't picture it in his mind based on a name. But there's undeniable.familiarity here, and he doesn't know where it comes from.]

What happened?

We came there searching for the keyhole. Instead we found Riku.

We fought, and for a while, I couldn't use the keyblade.

[It's incredibly vague-- probably because no one's ever really asked him about that time before. He's finding his way through this for the first time.]

[Like Xion--and yet very different.]

So what did you do?

Riku had the keyblade. Donald and Goofy had to go with em. All I had was this toy sword from the islands.

So I kinda gave up.

Until then, I'd always thought the Keyblade was the only thing that gave me strength.

It isn't.

[He's sure of that. Still, that's an awfully bad situation to end up in, and not one Roxas can imagine had an easy solution.]

But you were alone.

That's the thing. I wasn't really...

I had to pick myself up and keep going. [With a little help from Beast of course.] But when it came down to the wire, my friends pulled through for me.

It's in the really bad times that you figure out who your friends are. [He's long forgiven Riku. And he thinks Riku's more than made up for what happened when there was all that darkness in his heart. But that was Donald and Goofy's time to shine. It's why he'll trust them no matter what.] That's when you find out who you are too.
