It should be a good thing, should it not? For someone to return to the world in which they belong. They are going back to friends and family... We should be glad of that. Yet it is still painful to lose that person, because they are your dear friend.

I am glad for the friendships I have made here, however temporary they may be.

I've wondered that before. I'm still not sure if there's a right answer...but you're right, that it's good to be thankful for the connections we make here. For some people, those matter more than anything.

[ he hesitated, the words half typed out on his screen as he pondered if returning home was better. There was uncertainty and doubt and not everyone's lives were better on the other side of the divide.

Was it better to happy for them? Who knew. ]

You can always say hello to them if you get lonely. Their names should be on the memorial wall.

It's tough. Honestly, after the first few, I thought about... well, about not making any connections. No friends. Nothing that could hurt you if someone left.

[He pauses and frowns.] But you can't really live like that. So I decided to make those connections, to rely on those friends just a little... and it hurt worse when they left.

[He winces.] That's not as inspirational as it should be.

No, you're right. I would never think of pushing away my friends, no matter how painful a departure would be.
