[A short, simple post pings the Network about an hour before evening sirens.]

It seems that this world is eager to claim a holiday or celebration for every little thing. Is there then one for remembrance of those lost? It is a strange question, I know, but it is sometimes more expedient to simply ask. |

[For anyone who might be out and about this evening, Sephiroth is wandering among the markers at the Newcomer Memorial, giving most of them at least a casual regard but spending the bulk of his time at one or two in particular.]

I'm not sure if it counts, but I was there when they put up the Newcomer Memorial.

I mean that it isn't exactly on that list of holidays the Port's calendars have. But I did see something like a "Memorial Day". I can't quite remember.

Well, there's Memorial Day, an' Veteran's Day. They's fer rememberin' soldiers, both fallen an' not. Then, there's Labor Day, fer rememberin' workers. Easter an' Lent fer rememberin' Christ's sacrifice... Sure I'm fergettin' somethin'. But the first three are from the States, dunno what they celebrate here in Canada.

[She is ADORABLE. Kevin is just so used to her that he doesn't even blink.]

Then it's up t'folks t'celebrate it their own way. Some folks use Mother's Day or Father's Day t'remember their parents. Others use a birthday or like Christmas t'remember 'em.

Do you mean people who died, or people who disappeared?

I've heard of a day called "All Souls Day," but I was under the impression that it was simply religious in nature.

Neither am I, but it's still a day to reflect on those who have passed.

Way I see it, any day you feel like getting all remembery and taking flowers to a gravesite works like a holiday. And if you really think about it, you remember them all the time, not just once or twice a year.

There are a lot of celebrations on this planet. This city seems to take from most of them. Looking over history books for this city, there are several remembrance days, but it depends on what you are looking for, I suppose. Are you looking for something in particular?

There's a holiday native to the culture of Mexico but celebrated wherever there is a Mexican expatriate community called Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in which the dead are remembered and death is acknowledged.

I don't know if there is, but if there isn't, I think there should be! If you're missing someone, though, you could go to the Newcomer Memorial.

There should be.

[And coincidentally, guess which little spirit medium is also at the Newcomer Memorial, with more paper cranes?]
