It seems that this world is eager to claim a holiday or celebration for every little thing. Is there then one for remembrance of those lost? It is a strange question, I know, but it is sometimes more expedient to simply ask. |

[For anyone who might be out and about this evening, Sephiroth is wandering among the markers at the Newcomer Memorial, giving most of them at least a casual regard but spending the bulk of his time at one or two in particular.]

Yes and no. Sometimes the greatest talking is not in not asking questions, but in taking only what is offered. I think we found that in each other.

but asking question lets people know you care what they're thinking!

And not asking them lets people know you respect that which they would keep private. It's a delicate balance.

you can ask without being pushy about it, can't you?

You can, I suppose. But I generally choose not to, especially when I can sense that it is something about which the other person would rather not talk.

oh! well of course it's different if it's something they obviously don't want to talk about

And there is a lot to be said in silence, if one knows how to listen to it.

so he was the type of person who didn't like to talk about serious stuff a lot?

We were each others' escape from some of the more unsavory parts of our lives. That is not to say that we did not mention them, but rather that we had a silent understanding as well.

an understanding? so you went through the same kind of thing?

Similar in that neither of us had entirely pleasant experiences. The details did not always need to be shared.
