So, does it snow like that here often? 'Cause, I mean, if it does, then I guess I could be a little better prepared, you know? Warm clothes and stuff. Probably could stock up on food too. [That last bit is sort of mumbled to himself]

Speaking of clothes and food and stuff -- plus, I don't wanna be a freeloader too much longer -- I think it's probably time I got a job or something. This is probably gonna sound stupid to some people, but I'm not even sure where to start looking. I mean, I'm not even really sure what I'm good at, as far as job skills and things go. Well, I know what I'm good at and everything, I'm just not really sure how it would apply or anything.

[He lays the NV on his bed next to him, so it's just pointed up toward the ceiling now. It's not a bad ceiling. Finn's spent a lot of time looking at it]

I feel sorta useless and changing that would be kinda nice.

Oh yeah, you wouldn't believe it. Anti-Newcomer sentiment is really a problem here.

Some other guy was telling me about it and he was saying something about it being dangerous here for us because of them. Maybe I sorta underestimated or something.

Yeah, you definitely don't want to do that. If you can, stick with working for and living with Newcomers? I mean, you don't want to be completely insular, but for the people you really depend on- yeah.

Well, I'm living with people that I know from home, so I've already kinda got that part covered. Is there a way of actually telling Newcomers and locals apart without actually, you know, asking or something?

Well... when I meet someone in person, if I can get their name, then you can get a second to subtly search for their name on your NV. If their name comes up, then they own one and they're a Newcomer.

You don't have to not talk to residents or anything- just be careful.

So all of us are listed in that NV thing? Like, all of the Newcomers, I mean.

Yep, every Newcomer in the city. Actually, it's kind of how we can tell who's here and who's gone home. If someone's NV goes completely offline - not just not answering, but the Network doesn't show they have one - then usually that means they're gone.

That's pretty handy, I guess. [Though the idea of people just disappearing at all will probably never stop being unsettling]

Here's some free advice- find as many normal things as you can that you liked in your old life, and find ways to do them here.
