[ Audio kicks in before the feed does, only for a few seconds and with it comes the dull buzz of distant voices and lazy not-quite-bustle of a restaurant, a diner perhaps, which becomes clearer with the slanted view of a waitresses elbow as she passes, and the florescent lights above.  The NV is propped up (properly).   The man is disheveled, exhausted, but god knows he's probably been awake since he arrived late last night, but then who could sleep after that? ]

"You're kiddin' me right now...." 

[At least the coffee he has clutched between his hands is probably helping, or just fueling his already exasperated bewilderment of the entire situation.  Thankfully no one knows him enough to recognize that the sardonic expression on his face is just the little sputtering fuse on it's way to the dynamite.]

"Sorry I ducked out of the welcoming parade, aloha's and floral leis aren't exactly my thing."  [That's dripping sarcasm boys and girls, because by aloha's he means "monsters" and by parade he means what the hell just happened? ]

"I'm guessing my road to enlightenment is paved with questions, so if anyone can spare a minute to fill me in on what exactly is going on here that wasn't covered in the vacation brochure, I'd be obliged."

[Don't expect him to show much appreciation, but he'd really like to fill in the blanks.   Oh and feel free to join him in the diner, but expect to pay, seems he left his wallet in the 23rd century.]

I run the clinic at the newcomer community center.

And yes, settling in is advised. You may be here for awhile. Sometimes people vanish without a trace just as readily, without warning. Others find themselves 'stuck' here for years,unable to leave. No one here claims to know how the pull makes that selection.

Yeah I heard that was there. Looks like there's no shortage of medical centers here. Makes sense since apparently we're in hell warmed over.

Ah, a common problem among our lot, isn't it?

Luckily the Chief Director at Skye Medical Center, Skye Pyke, is extremely understanding when it comes to that. I'm not the first newcomer to be hired with minimal referencing. So if you do need an interview arranged, I can ask about openings-

What does your experience entail?

College for general practition, surgical ... Finished my internship at Piedmont in Atlanta, two years as an attending afterward. Surgeon at Starfleet Medical in San Francisco for three years, and six months as the chief medical officer aboard a starship.

[He would have said the Enterprise, but the kid probably wouldn't have had any idea what he was talking about]

And you shouldn't be, it's not much more than danger and death in an unfathomable darkness. You think dealing with diseases is a pain in the ass now? Add exposure to dozens of different alien races with different immune systems, physiologies and genetics and try slapping a bandaid on that.

Well, here in Siren's Port, we do see some of that.

Last year I had a Turian patient who needed an artificially manufactured diet of dextro-amino proteins. That was tricky.

Sounds like I might actually find a challenge here after all.
