Then all my own misdeeds on Midgard should be forgotten when I return since that was a previous life and not this one.

Yes. Several of them.
I would argue in his defense a profound culture shock, rather than what they are attempting. But...
And yes, I would argue that point for you. Not forgotten but forgiven, at least.
