Oh, but I've never had a twenty-fifth birthday before! It's hard to have one when you die a year before; it wasn't a very nice thing. I think I died of infection, I wouldn't recommend it. [spoilers, he never died.] I wouldn't recommend my century either, it was miserable.

Is there anything a person should have done or seen by the age of twenty-five? I'd like to catch up!

Arthur was a fine author indeed! I read some of his best work, he was very convincing.

[God forbid Break or Vincent read this conversation. Jack's smile twitches, and he turns the feed private.]

[ Oh, he notices the privacy setting, and is quite amused by it. Fine by him, he'll gladly keep it all to himself a bit longer. ]

I admit, I underestimated him! I looked over the journals, they were, supposedly, flawless. Unfortunately not.

You can plait my hair, [he announces, dropping the airheaded affable part of his hero persona, and grins.] because you have lovely hands.

You should really come out of the third floor more, Rufus. You're interesting.

[ A corner of his lips quirks up into the slightest smirk. ]

'Tis not flattery that I seek, but surely, thou knowest well.

[ Snapping his fan shut, he crosses his hands at the wrists upon his knee, expectantly. ]

I'm but a humble music box maker, what sort of knowledge would someone like you possibly glean from me?

[jack leans forward; he knows he can't afford to make Rufus unhappy.]

[ Rufus appears as though he might sigh, at first - because really, he couldn't think that he would fall for such an act - but seems reasonably pleased when an agreement is reached. ]

Thou knowest where to find me, I trust? T'would likely be assured more privacy here.

Oh, don't use Dodo, will you? I know how to spot an illusion when I've seen one, Glen has used them to hide from me many times.

[ Hm. Well, there goes that idea. ]

[ A nod, before ending the feed on his side. Setting aside the NV, he opts to tidy up a tad as he waits - though, mostly, it is limited to clearing books from the seat opposite his own.

Not having his personal servant around any longer is a hindrance. Sigh. ]

[rufus is still hard to find even without dodo in action, but Jack manages after thirty minutes.

look, he's even toting a fruit bowl, apples and grapes and small paring knives and hands off the oranges, please and thank you, he'll totter a greeting and a charming smile. knock knock.]

Lord Barma? [for the benefit of anyone who might possibly be listening in; jack's paranoid.]

[ The door is open; as he has the entirety of the floor to himself, really, there's no need to bother with that.

Really, Rufus didn't expect to greet the Vessalius from opposite a mound of fruit. While standing to gesture him inside to the nearest seat, he idly eyes the knives he's brought along with him. ]

A thoughtful gesture, Hero.

[ As it's likely to get more of a response, he closes the door behind the other. He can't entirely blame him for being cautious, in any case. ]

Jack. 's my name. [yeah he'll just slide into the seat across Rufus, slouching into it like a petulant child.]

And don't worry, I'm not looking to stab you with that knife. Honestly, milord.

T'would be no surprise if thou didst, all be considered.

[ Always tactful. Returning to his own chair, he leans back to cross his legs at the knee, twirling the closed body of his fan between his hands. He smiles. ]

I am most pleased that thou hast joined me. Jack. [ He taps a finger to the metal. ] Shouldst thou not trust that we be alone, thou art welcome to look for thyself. [ He then gestures to the room in itself. ]

Oswald would be upset.

[he says, simply, giving Rufus a look before getting up again and giving the room a once-over. just a quick one. he is quite confident that rufus isn't going to give up his bartering chip so quickly.

he doesn't sit back down. instead, he leans on the back of rufus' chair, reaching out to flick that little stray lock of hair standing up.]

[ To the look, he only tilts his head off to the side a bit, smiling still. ]

Wouldn't he.

[ ... what are you doing there, Jack. He just has the most unimpressed look to his eye as he glances up at him - the slightest bit cross-eyed focusing in on him like that. ]

Had I realized that thee were serious yet, I might have arranged for different seating.

[operation confuse the living daylights out of Rufus, commence!]

It's fine like this. [Jack smiles at him, stepping to the side as if looking over Rufus' shoulder, like he'd done so many times with Arthur. He then proceeds to sit on Rufus' armrest, right into his personal space.]

Being seated across someone is more confrontational than being seated beside them, you know?

[ Rufus just leaaans on over into the opposite armrest. It could be argued that it would be to see the other more properly, but there is that rather affronted frown pulling at his lips. ]

T'would be civil and offer thee proper opportunity to face one another during conversation.

[ Yeah, that personal space, bro. He's used to having plenty of it, okay. ]

[ Rufus had been just one step away from snapping open his fan to block his mouth or what have you, sour expression only deepening in disapproval. It does come as a relief when he steps away. Jack is clearly attempting to unnerve him, and he hates that it's working.

He huffs, righting himself. ]

'Tis a habit I'd acquired from studies in my youth.

[ Meaning he read more than he socialized. What are friends. ]

Lucky. I was illiterate for most of my childhood.

[he starts prying the orange open, smiling at Rufus mischievously. old as he is, he still can be flustered, can't he? jack does return to the chair provided for him, curling up in it.]

I've a question, [confident and shameless and expecting Rufus to answer,] why do you keep on talking in such an archaic way? Glen spoke formally, but never to your extent.
