Y'know I'm getting pissed that these M.A.N. people are running around labelling every Newcomer they see as some kinda sicko who wants to do godawful shit to their kids. It's like they've forgotten that it was Newcomers who went out and found that missing kid last year, or that they've been happy letting their kids take classes for six months from a Newcomer but now, because some bigot's got it in her head that we're all sick bastards, they're gonna take their kids out of classes until they fire the guy teaching them because he's a Newcomer.

[He checks himself because he's doing the same thing that they're doing.]

There's a bunch of people who turn up in the news trying to get Newcomers in trouble by saying we're not safe for their kids to be around. It's a bunch of bull.

That's ridiculous. You said you've been here for months and I assume nothing catastrophic has happened yet.

It's not all going to me personally, you pay the dojo I work at. It's $100 a month and you get three 90 minute classes a week.

You don't have to sign up for anything right away, just come along and try it out for a couple of sessions and if you want you can book yourself in month by month. Nomura-san's cool like that, martial arts aren't for everyone.

Simple minds are the most easily frightened in my experience. Those that you complain of lack the intelligence to differentiate between the newcomers who are dangerous and those that merely wish to live their. They take the easy path, of hating us all equally. It is really quite pathetic. Not something worth being angry over. Rather, you should pity such simpletons.

Right, so you're saying that if someone makes a snap judgement about me because I wasn't born in this place that I should take it quietly? I've been dealing with that shit my whole life and this time, when people are saying I could be a child molester or worse, I'm supposed to pity them?

I'm gonna be angry if people are coming to the place I work and taking away business from my boss because they take one look at me and decide I'm some kinda liability to be around their kids. I don't have any pity for assholes like that.

I shall be blunt. You do realize that sort of reaction is exactly what they are searching for, correct? To allow their words to engrave themselves into your mind is to allow them to make of you a fool. It is a rather simple ploy, really. They seek to stir up trouble so that there is a response that justifies their words. Are you familiar with the concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy? I somehow doubt it, but this is a similar thing. As for why I say you should pity them, I fear you are confusing pity for sympathy. I am not saying you should feel sorry for them. Rather, I am saying that you should see how pathetic they are. The insult of an insect is no insult at all.

Don't patronise me. I'm not fulfilling anyone's fucking prophecy about me, not here or anywhere else, and I'm especially not gonna go out and molest a kid or smack one around, I'd rip my own throat out before I'd ever do shit like that, you know why? Because if someone ever did that to a kid on my watch I would make them fucking regret it with every bone I'd break in their body. Being an adult means you stand up for the people who can't stand up for themselves, that's their responsibility. I have kid sisters back home who I would die for and I would throw myself in front of a bus for every single kid I teach so don't you sit there on your god damn high horse talking to me like I'm gonna go out and prove those clueless bigots wrong, you don't know shit about me.

I'm allowed to speak out when people accuse me of being something I would never be in a million fucking years, that's not fulfilling anyone's damn prophecy. And I don't have any sympathy for people who are falsely accusing someone of being a pervert just because they came from a different place.

The fact that these opinions have been seriously considered only shows how small the city is. Why don't you try rallying some sort of counter-movement?

And give them a chance to complain about that too? No thanks.

No harm in doing absolutely nothing at all- that's how many of us seem to be dealling with the changes. I only think a petition might gather quite a bit of interest among Newcomers.

Not much you can do about that, but just deal.

It really is unfortunate, but everywhere there are signs of prejudice. It takes time to fight the stigma attached to Newcomers, and unfortunately, several Newcomers have made it harder for us to get past it, in the past.

What they want, we can't give them. No one can. But to find some middle ground? That is the best we can do for now.
