February ni- is it really February 19th?

[Guess who's been a bit, er, distracted for the last week or so. But hey! Better late than never, in his book.]

Ahhhh not the worst I've been with losing track of time, at least. Bit common, really. Either way, I do have a bit of a question. A nice little public inquiry of sorts!

I've been hearing talk of elections and police forces floating about, figured it was about time to get the whole history of the place, now that I've figured out some of the scientific and physical make-up of this city, its inhabitants, the 'powers' some of you are developing. And, well, this many people trapped in one place, some with powers and some without, seems a bit like chaos waiting to happen. Well, not waiting. Been listening to the news broadcasts, at least. [Just... not the dates.] And see, I have a friend in the police force. Well, in the investigative division. Well... no, actually. Not sure what she does. Bit of information on that would be nice.

Otherwise, I'd especially appreciate a rundown on magic, actually. Where I'm from its not entirely possible, just a different branch of science. Where humans mastered atoms and the combination of chemicals others you would label as witches and wizards mastered words. So if there's anyone willing to just meet up somewhere and give me a magic demonstration, just let me watch a bit, take down some calculations... might help on figuring out what makes this place so... ohIdunno, different, I suppose. What makes it so easy to trap us here. Changes the rules and laws of physics and keeps us trapped.

[He pauses, takes in a deep breath to calm down, and when he speaks again? Well, it sounds downright cheerful.]

Would also like a recommendation for a good florist, if there are any still operating in all this snow. Always tend to miss Earth traditions...

Right, well--I'm not too sure myself. I mean, it's probably more science than magic, but Heaven's Fence has a lot of debates like that. I can move things with my mind, for one. Hypnotize. Control. It's kind of scary.

Now, Doctor. Not everything can be explained by science. My mutation, of course, can, but I can name quite a few people from back home and one or two here, actually, who would be a bit cranky with you having so cavalierly dismissed magic. Especially since, magic is an integral part of who, and what, they are. And they're the kinda people you don't wanna tick off.

[Like Loki. And Gabriel. And Lucifer. And ya know... the other Angels, but ticking off Gabriel and Lucifer seems like a bad idea.]

It's really just a matter of what I'm used to, I suppose. The idea of magic was something to be laughed at in my home universe... even the other universes we knew of didn't have any signs of magic. At least not any that couldn't be reproduced through mechanical, chemical, or simply auditory means. Vibrations of the voice at different levels, the mental stimulus of a certain word.

Well, Loki for one. Norse mythology is something you're familiar with I'm sure.

Then, there's Lucifer, Michael, Gabriel... ticking off archangels is just a bad idea. And I say this as someone who on a regular basis pisses off folks stronger than myself. Sure there's the whole argument that they might not be whom they claim to be - which, I'm sure they've heard before many times - but I just don't think that's a risk you should take. Just not worth it, ya know?

In my world, it is. [He puffs out his cheeks for a moment, before letting out a frustrated rush of air.] Where I come from, everything's measured and calculated. Even the slightest bits of chance can be attributed to some formula or another. Reality can be bent, time folded over on top of itself, but everything comes down to science in the end. A chemical reaction, simply labeled as magic to some civilization or another because it can't be explained yet with their current technology level.

Don't usually find myself being closed minded about things, but this? ... Can't quite wrap my mind around it. Keep looking for an explanation.

You're joking. Those aren't the same at all, magic and technology and science, and-- look, mate, where I'm from, it's 1976, which is what I'd call a more modern day, loads of technology and weird thingers and strange times and all--and we still have magic, and it isn't chemicaluar.

It's not all madness, mind, there's explanations and theories and laws and all of it, but it's not science either, and it hasn't anything at all to do with formulas. Disgusting. Never touch the stuff, myself.
