[Diego is sitting at his desk at the prosecutor's office. There is a large stack of paperwork in front of him. He picks up the top sheet, casually sipping his coffee with his other hand.]

Thirteen suspects. Let's add it up.

One hundred and thirty counts of willful destruction of property. Twenty-six counts of arson. Ninety-one counts of assault, twenty-six counts of assault with a deadly weapon and thirteen counts of assault by misuse of powers. And last but certainly not least, fifty-two counts of manslaughter.

[A long sip of coffee.]

Now all I need is names.

What makes you think we're all sitting on our asses ignoring the real problem while the symptoms go cause more rashes to distract us?

I understand if you're powerless to work against a system that's determined to destroy us, but asking us to turn in our own people is just twisted.

If Newcomers want equal protection under the law, they have to accept equal punishment under it as well.

Where do these people get off screaming about how unfair it all is while they piss all over the very law they want to keep them safe?

If people get abused by a system enough times, eventually they're going to fight back.

We don't have equal protection. If Spencer manages to buy his way out of this like rich people do in my world, then we obviously don't have equal punishment, either.

By the way, nice job advocating for a system that would just as soon throw you under the bus.

And to do so throws a wrench in their chances of ever fixing the system.

Spencer's not buying his way out of it. I had a case pending against him, a case now thrown into jeopardy when I got a phone call that two of my witnesses were killed in the attack on the hunting grounds.

I'm not the only Newcomer who has sweat and bled, working to pry our basic rights out of the law here. Every Newcomer who knowingly breaks the law spits in the face of everything that others of our kind have died to win for us.

And you can't even pretend to understand why people other than you are getting frustrated? Angry, even?

The legal way might work, but it's taken years for us to gain enough rights to be hunted down right under the law's nose. People have a right to be angry and do something to keep this from happening again.

Of course they have the right to be angry. I understand. I'm angry too.

But I can't overlook what they've done. Nor should I. We cannot break the law and make ourselves as dangerous as the people who hate us think they are.

That's a nice attitude, but it won't do anything in the long run. All it will do is make us sitting targets who won't defend ourselves.
