That's what I love about great danes. [amiling at the puppy as he ruffles the dog's ears] Doesn't matter that they're the size of a horse, all they want is to be a lapdog.

[he stands again] I was serious though - soon as I get off work we should go do somethin'. Even if it's somethin' simple, like goin' for a hike, or a swim. ...You like to swim?

[And he sounds pleasantly surprised that Sam means it. Of all the things Lucifer expected when he started with this joke, people celebrating wasn't on the list.

He pulls Frasier back up onto the bench.]

I'll see you to that. [literally, maybe. Wouldn't that be fun?]

Four. But gimme half an hour after that to make a quick run somewhere. We can meet up maybe in Sector 7.

[because he'll be swinging by a costume shop to get Lucifer's gift]

[Which is when Sam rolls up with a small birthday bag, festively decorated (by the party shop actually, it was thoughtful of them). He grins and waves]

Did you go and make your own birthday cake? Seems sorta sad.

No, my brother made it. I just helped test the batter. And then he had to stop me.

[shifting]

Testin' the batter's the best part of cookin'. And of bein' around someone who's cookin'.

...Anyhow, I've got a gift for you. [he shakes the bag]

For me?

[You know what Lucifer never gets? Gifts. He grins and steps forward to take the bag--part of not having a birthday party before means he doesn't quite get the etiquette involved.]

[Sam snorted, but relinquished the gift. So eager, Lucifer. It was really pretty cute.]

Now, I did have to guess on your size... but hopefully I did ok.

[he has a feeling with this costume, it won't matter too much.

He'd opted for the deluxe version; the cape was sequined.]

...it's hilarious. Lucifer loves it, because frankly he's the only one who ever makes Devil jokes about himself. Most people are too busy quaking in their boots.

But of course Sam isn't.

So he puts that cape on right off the bat.]

[which leaves Sam grinning from ear to ear, stepping in to help Lucifer adjust the collar]
