Open Summer Education courses upcoming at Siren's Pull University (SPU): German Philosophy & Literature - Tues., Thurs. 12:30 - 2 PM - A comprehensive course covering the ideas of Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard and the literary works of Goethe, Kafka, and Mann. Lecture style with discussion encouraged. Early 20th Century Europe - Mon., Wed., Fri. 2 - 2:50 PM - Study will center most around the World Wars and what led to both of them, as well as their aftermath. Lecture/discussion course. Taught by newcomer professor, George Smiley, who served in WWII.

[As far as anyone will know, Smiley was a soldier, not a spy.]

Questions on these courses can be directed to Professor Smiley at (NV number), and those interested are asked to register at SPU's enrollment office.

Oh my god, philosophy?

You can't be serious.

You may as well teach the next generation that they need to stop thinking.

I find corporate alliances a bit of a slippery slope even when I'm not stuck on an island with them.

I stand for myself, and the people I know.

I take it you have no intentions on signing up for the course.

I've read all of the listed authors, obviously, but I fail to see how re-reading the works of Nietzsche will assist these people in much of anything.

Not all forms of philosophy are complete hogwash.

It's an introductory course, therefore for people who haven't read it. If you don't wish to re-read it, then no need to take it. As said before.

I'm afraid the interested have to sign up themselves with enrollment services, not me.

I'll help anyone who needs it, regardless of background or personality. I don't really believe in outright sides to things. Certain camps to stand in.

[Franz makes note to sign up for the class on WWII. It's genuinely ancient history in his timeline, but it's relatively recent in this one, and could be not only interesting, but useful in context to relating to the 20th and 21st century natives here.

I stand with the newcomers, and the Newcomer Political Party.

But why not teach something that could help these people get out of here?

We built and help fund the Newcomer Community Center, which provides a safe space for Newcomers for recreational activities as well as some educational classes to help them adjust to life here. Because of us the process for newcomers to become citizens has been very streamlined, and we've held several citizenship drives. We have also worked with the mayor on matters of newcomer concern.

It is not enough, I know, but it is something. No city wants to take on a group of unintended refugees, but we have much to offer Siren's Port, and it is my personal goal to make sure those in power see it.

That is good to know.

Integrity. Safety, for both the body and the mind, for one cannot survive without the other. Opposing the Darkness, both literal and metaphorically.

Unfortunately "Core Repair" is not taught by anyone on the island.
