Seventh Trick: Permavideo

[The feed turns on and Loki is drinking a Red Bull while he looks down at the NV, can in one hand, the device obviously in his other hand.]

Today is the same day as yesterday. This leads me to two very pertinent questions:

[He releases the NV to hold up one finger and the device floats up slightly level with his face] First question: Do the natives know about this?

[A second finger is peeled off his closed fist to join the first, two fingers held up] Second question: What is the probability of this happening tomorrow?

[The NV pans back slightly and Loki is standing in front of a jewelry store with a rather magnificent scepter and crown displayed. This does not bode well for our juvenile hero's moral choice system.]

I got bored. [Purses his mouth]

No?

Huh. Not even a little? It must be something to live outside the norms and rules.

Why live within them? That's so structured and boring. Besides, I'm not human.

Laws are necessary, besides people will heat you if you go too far.

Ah, Youko, I do not intend to go too far. Besides, back home, everyone hates me anyway. Only my brother cares for me at all.

This isn't home. We care for you. That's why... that's why we don't want you to ruin this chance.

[A long pause and then Loki is physically in front of her, throwing his arms around her and just hugging because literally, no one has ever said anything like that to him. Ever.]

[Youko was embarrassed that she said that. First, she had thought it would be easier for her to be around him if he wasn't so obvious on his felonies and pranks. What would people think about her by her association with him? But... she had come to worry for him. The exact isolation he felt, she too understood it. She had avoided it by being a good girl.

If he acted the same, he wouldn't be hated. He wasn't a bad person to be hated so much. He brought it to himself, but it wasn't fair.

It wasn't fair. She knew that.

That was the mixture of emotions she felt. The good and the bad swirling within her when she waited for an answer that didn't come.

Instead, he appeared out of blue and gave her a hug. Her eyes widdene in confusion.]

Huh? Serrure-kun?

....nothing. [But he still had not let go of her.

Not even Thor had said something like that to him. Not in either of the past lifetimes he remembered.

And maybe he didn't want to leave this place. Maybe it was selfish that he didn't want his friends to leave either.

Friends. He had friends.

This feeling, he supposed, was why people could become heroes.]

[Youko didn't know how to have friends. She had 'friends' in school and she believes that was friendship, but it was different with Loki.

She had looked after him as if he was a family member, enough even to overlook his obvious strangeness. She felt comforted and more relaxed because he wasn't scrutinizing her all the time.

Slowly, Youko began to pat his back and head.]

L...Looks like it's something.

[His face is buried in your chest, just FYI, but he mutters out-]

That was just really... no one has ever said that to me before.

[Nobody has told me that either, Youko realized. But she thought that was what her parents thought about her. That was why they were worried about her future.

She blushed when she noticed where his head as leaned on and shook him off lightly to kneel before him.]

Maybe not, but they could have thought about it.

Thinking it doesn't matter as much as saying it aloud.

[Allows her to shake him off and kneel before him, he just smiles at her, an open, warm smile, not the usual sly or smug expressions]

I care for you, too, Youko. And for that, I won't cause trouble and bring that sort of thing on you.

Um, sometimes people speak through their actions.

[Youko says little nervously. Like she did when she had grabbed him when the building was on fire.]

Huh? You will?

I prefer words. Actions can be misleading.

Yes, I will try harder.

[ Once Caster came across Youko's heartfelt words -- how it wasn't home and how they cared for him -- saying anything more felt only paltry. Instead, she chimed in her agreement: ]

What Miss Nakajima says is my thoughts exactly, Serrure. So, you need to be careful with your decisions.

And if you're bored...well, it's still winter. Have you had a chance to go sledding yet?

Sledding... in a way ... [Monster truck demolition derby.]

I just thought it wouldn't count as a bad decision if it was erased tomorrow. But, I never thought of how it might affect others. [He never cared to think of how it affected others because he never thought others really cared about him.]

In a way? [ She definitely doesn't suspect anything remotely close to demolition derbies. ]

Well, as long as you understand now, then that is what matters.

If by sledding you mean monster trucks. And if by sledding on snow, you mean driving monster trucks over regular cars in traffic, then yes.

Although with proper foresight, I can see how that might be a poor idea and ill conducive to attempting to understand things from the perspective of others.

[she was a little surprised by how she said it. It was like if someone else was speaking, the girl before she was taught to keep her thoughts shut long ago.]

[ Caster gave a soft, amiable chuckle. ]

Ah, what about you, Miss Nakajima? Have you ever gone sledding?

Huh?

[ She looks puzzled. She pictures her father's face when someone asks her that. ]

I... I haven't had the chance.

Well, then, it's a good thing that winter hasn't ended yet.

But first things first -- do you intend to do anything about this repetition of days? Or do you just plan to wait it out?

Is there anything I could do?
