Four here exist with the power to remake the universe at their whim. Two with the power to ignore the laws of this Creation entirely.

Guarded away so no one does anything foolish, yes. You might have noticed the Voids standing in the baseball diamond and keeping an eye on things.

They're people and no, you can't exactly do that without angering a lot of others.

We've come to care for the well-being's of our shackles, now?

They're doing their jobs. That's all. They're there to keep the peace and make sure no one's dumb enough to go jumping down to the Core and mess with it without restraint.

Both AGI and SERO have had a good look at the Core itself - or as close as they can get without anyone dying - but nothing's happened since.

Since they've given it the once over and the governor finally called them off. That was back when he took office over the summer.

And I suppose no other plans have been made to explore its purpose.

Even if some of us were capable of getting to it, what would we do with it? Destroy it, and potentially kill everything and everyone on the island?

I'd think it would prefer being spoken to, before we brought out our knives and sledgehammers.

You believe it's sentient?

Irony tends to be a concept seen only in those capable of the higher brain functions.

You have had lifetimes to come to terms and to know all that exists anywhere. Most of the rest of us have not. The idea of a sentient, all power machine is nearly unheard of.

But not, as you've just stated, unheard of. It is not such a complex thing, to sow life where life is absent -- if the Core is somehow sentient, or has grown to be thus over time, then its actions have motive, and that motive is what will lead us to understand it.

Fair enough.

[And interesting as well. She's discarded the sentient theory for some time, mostly because it seems so illogical, but... Well, he's piqued her interest, damn him.]

And if that's the case, then I don't see why I'd stop you. Just be careful. The Core's been known to be temperamental; anything you do or say, or even just being there, could set it off.
