Hey - [Sam looks very busy! He's in his office at Merlotte's, gathering up files, folders...] - wanted to let everybody know to come down to Merlotte's tonight, we've got a few stand-up comics hired for the night show and some drink specials. I won't be there though, I've got to meet with some people about gettin' a loan, but I've got someone I used to work with at Club 24 coverin' for me tonight. She's real sweet, so I want ya'll to make her feel welcome, okay? - And don't think this means you can act up in the club; I'll still be back to kick ya'll in the ass tomorrow if you do.

[he grabs his keys, waves at the NV and sets it face-down on his desk. There's a muffled conversation, and soon after a woman picks the NV up and smirks]

...Hey there. I'm Sandra - I'll be watchin' the bar for Sam tonight. Hope to see you all in.

[Lucifer exhales through his nose and takes a drink and doesn't answer for a while.]

It sounds so bleak when you put it that way. But I'll tell you something, if I had known in heaven what I know now...? If I had known then how to truly work people? Michael would never have laid a hand on me. So you tell me what's better, Castiel. Working with the truth, or living in denial?

[His tone is bitter, now.]

If your relationships are fake, then what are you fighting for?

They're not fake, that's the point. I'm seeing the truth and I'm choosing to work with it. What's the alternative, Castiel? Know the truth and ignore it so I can pretend things are perfect?

No, it's just... Strategy.

[Cold facts and logic and things angels deal with really well. But Castiel wants the emotional part now that he's learned the value of it, and taking everything down to cause and effect seems to ruin that.]

[Lucifer has mastered the art of having both. Well, he's trying, anyway. And right now his life is going swell.]

Strategy so that you can have honest, real relationships.

[Castiel just shakes his head slowly, then finishes off his glass. That's three, of extremely strong liquor, and he's gone from totally sober to completely hammered in less than an hour.]

Based on trying to out... Out...

[Something. Maneuver, he realizes belatedly, but doesn't bother to finish the sentence.

Oh. Oh. He's drunk.

He suddenly feels very stupid.]

[And Lucifer is having to smother peals of laughter in his own drink.]

Now why couldn't you be like this all the time?

I'm drunk.

[It's said half in wonderment and half accusatorially as he looks at his brother, swaying some more.]

I shouldn't be. Even on the... On the stuff for angels. What is it?

[thelightbringer]

This is for angels. And it's watered down. [He looks at Castiel wonderingly.]

[Castiel states blearily back.]

No it isn't. I wouldn't be this drunk.

[It was just three glasses okay; even the angel stuff wouldn't hit him this hard, especially watered down. The normal angel stuff, anyway.]

Maybe your tolerance is down, then. This is what I drink with Michael.

[Were Castiel not completely smashed, he might've figured out that there must be different strengths of angel alcohol just as there is for regular alcohol. But he is, and so he doesn't; instead he tries to take a step to keep walking alongside Lucifer and trips over his own feet, ending up on the ground and extremely confused.]

[thelightbringer]

[Lucifer laughs, and laughs, but reaches down and helps Castiel up.]

[He accepts the help mostly because he's too drunk to remember to refuse it, swaying a few steps to grab onto his brother's shoulder and use his hold to keep himself upright. At the same time, he's suddenly angry.]

This isn't funny, Lucifer.

[thelightbringer]

Oh, it really is. Imagine if I was the one flat on my face. Come on.

[Supporting him, and leading him to a cafe.]

You did this on... You knew this would happen.

[As quickly as it had come his anger dies away to almost petulance, and he doesn't pull away from Lucifer helping lead him to the cafe.]

No, I really didn't. I watered it down. But I can admit, because I'm an honest being, if I had known? You'd be drinking the real thing.

[He gets them a booth, and orders them both water and coffee. Because Chuck taught him this.]

[He sinks down into the booth and lays his head back, some part of him wondering what he's doing at a cafe with Lucifer and some part of him not caring. Another part, also, is reminding him that he's just agreed for this to become a common occurrence again.

He gives Lucifer a dazed look at his comment, staring for a moment before responding.]

I don't know what that means.

[He didn't follow any of that. Far too confusing for him right at the moment. But something else pops to mind, and in his drunken state he doesn't hesitate to ask.]

Why did you want to make this deal?

[thelightbringer]

[Lucifer is drunk enough to not want to repeat himself, so he'd begun playing with sugar packets, making (or trying to make) a house with them.]

Why not? We're both angels, we're from the same place. We should stick together.

[ofthursday]

[He watches him, and his response to that answer is bitter.]

Angels never want to 'stick together' with me.

Well, isn't that just a coincidence.

Do you see any of our siblings lining up to see me?

[ofthursday]

[He bristles at that.]

With reason.

[thelightbringer]

And what, they should be gathered around singing your praises instead? They have reason to hate you, too.

But I don't hate you, Castiel. [He starts pouring sugar into his brother's drink] not really. I told you this would happen, didn't I? The second I wasn't the big scapegoat, everyone would turn on you. With good reason from what I hear.

[Castiel scowls at his bother's words, mostly because he can't argue his points, even if he weren't drunk. He sort of rocks in his seat, frowning, eyes shifting to Lucifer pouring sugar into the coffee.]

I was trying to fix what you and Michael and Raphael started.

[thelightbringer]

You were trying to fix the war...with more war and ultimatums. Really. Who does that sound like? [Innocent smile, as he gestures very slightly at himself.]
