[Mary has found herself in a small store with electronic keyboards. Her eyes aren't visible from the way the NV is positioned so anyone watching might believe it's KOS-MOS rather than the woman she shares her body with.

She'd never had any involvement with music in the Ancient Lost Jerusalem Era, and KOS-MOS hadn't either in the future , but Mary had made a point of looking up information on her NV on how to play. Fingers lightly touched across the keys until she started playing. And when she finishes, she says very softly:]

I like this instrument.

I do not. It's actually the first time I've ever seen one.

I'd never have guessed. You must have a natural talent for it. But you've really never even seen a keyboard at all before?

I'm not human, I'm an android. I can learn at a much faster rate than any organic being. I've only seen pictures before, however. This is the first time I've actually touched and played one.

Why would anyone make music that causes sadness?

Well -- it's not necessarily to cause sadness. It's just... sometimes when people play music, their emotions come through with it. So if they're sad when they're playing their music, it can sound sad too.

For minstrels it's pretty much their bread and butter, to be able to convey feelings to the people listening to them. Although they tend to play more jaunty music than sad.

I see. So feelings affect music. I never really heard much music before I came here, I had a more important task before than to enjoy myself.

[Granted, Mary hadn't completely awoken until she came here and KOS-MOS had taken nearly as long to develop her emotions and personality.]

Without music, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason to smile.

I hadn't thought of that. There wasn't much music to be heard since I was activated. The exception being the bar on the Elsa though I rarely entered it.

I think I may endeavor to learn more about music at this rate.
