Oh, but I've never had a twenty-fifth birthday before! It's hard to have one when you die a year before; it wasn't a very nice thing. I think I died of infection, I wouldn't recommend it. [spoilers, he never died.] I wouldn't recommend my century either, it was miserable.
Is there anything a person should have done or seen by the age of twenty-five? I'd like to catch up!
[private to Ciel Phantomhive and Alois Trancy:]
I've offered one of my friends a place to stay, in our home, she's willing to clean and help around the house...would that be all right?
Also, can we get more rabbits? Please?

action
It's not impossible. I've cut part of the chains already.
action
'Tis not my implication; Lacie is no more, Jack Vessalius.
action
[Jack smiles at Rufus, hopelessly.]
If there was the slightest possibility of bringing her back...I would be pursuing that, wouldn't I?
action
And yet, thou wouldst bring the world to her...
action
[he couldn't talk about this to oswald, he couldn't talk about this to alois, and jack's eyes unfocus as he remembers his clearest memories from a time that should be forgotten.]
So why not bring it to her? If she couldn't come back to me, then I would come to her.
action
Dost thou comprehend what would become of thee, theoretically, if cast into that place? Lacie is no more, not in this world, not within the Abyss.
action
Have you ever fallen in love with someone, Rufus?
action
'Love' excuses madness not; I am capable of separating heart from mind, if circumstance requires it be.
action
[he drapes himself over the chair, legs dangling off the armrest.]
Love is a madness you have to endure, you have no choice to. It eats away at you, slowly but surely. Would you die for someone else?
action
Who then deflates, ever so slightly. ]
As a responsibility to mine house, I could not afford to be reckless...
action
If, for your house, you were required to kill the person you loved the most, with your own hands—
Would you do it?
action
In fact, if he hadn't been brought to the Port when he had... ]
Yes.
action
Why? [He hisses.] You're the same. You're all the same.
action
Intriguing, that thou wouldst criticize the sacrifice or one to spare the fall of many, in stead of slaughtering countless lives for no one at all.
action
She was important! Nobody else was! She was the only one who showed me how to live, and then she had to die?!
I hated that world. I hated it.
action
Art thou listening to thyself? Honestly.
[ The last word is quite nearly hissed beneath his breath. ]
Perhaps one could consider this a great irony; that Lacie would accept her fate in passing to ensure thy safety on the earth she loveth so, and that your Oswald Baskerville sendeth her diligently into death to honor his duty and her own.
But believeth thee yet that thou hast done her a service?
[ A quirk of the brow. ]
action
[Rufus you're a dick. But a logical dick. Jack breathes harshly, shaking his head, laughing a little, even.]
But here... You wouldn't understand what it's like to learn that you were wrong. Your entire life, wrong. Not you, nor the heads of the dukedoms I've created. None of you would understand what it is to be a mistake.
action
Annoying. ]
'Tis possible they might, were I to entrust them with the knowledge that mine ancestor bestowed onto me. Many a man hast diligently worked toward thy false ideals, believing they were in the right.
[ He smirks, letting a beat pass. ]
Fortunately for thee, t'would be of no benefit to me - nor they- here, as of yet.
action
[but jack has calmed down again, enough to pick up the orange and throw a segment at Rufus' head. It's all in good fun, though--! (next time it'll be the knife.)]
I killed Glen Baskerville. I remade the country. The tale still continued even after I had disappeared, and history had forgotten the defeated, remembered only the victors. What makes you think any of you can stop me?
[he asks, curiously.]
action
Simple; for we haven't any choice.
action
When I asked you, about that choice between duty and love - who did you think of?
action
Mm. Such information matters not.
[ As though he would divulge his ~feelings~ to an untrustworthy man. Vessalius, pls. But he'll make up a little something, to prevent any further questions. ]
All you need know is that never t'was, and never will be so. Thus, 'tis unimportant.
action
A little tragedy never hurt anyone.
action
[ A grumble of words, as Jack moves 'round.
Grasping the armrests, Rufus leans as though to stand - but the motion is one that pushes him up and forward, with a graceful twirl to face the other. One that leaves him actually floating above his seat to give the other man a properly disapproving leer, arms draped over his middle.
(He's spent a fair amount of time perfecting this ability that the port gave him, over the past few months. It comes almost too naturally to him now.) ]
'Tis not a tragedy, in any case, but reality.
action
[jack says, after a moment of staring; this isn't one of Dodo's powers, is it? Confusing batty old man. Jack lifts a hand to reach out, pawing at him like a kitten would a ball of yarn.]
It might be yours, it might not be mine. Reality is an objective sort of thing, Rufus dear, and I created the reality you and Pandora lived in for quite some time. [not to be arrogant, not really.] Aren't you glad? Your house has found sanctuary.
