[Eponine is trying her best to bite back how worried she sounds, and in her anxiety, the new vocabulary she's learned in Port has escaped her completely.]

I gave you food. You certainly weren't in love with me. But, do not be deluded. He belongs in Bedlam.

You gave me food because I am M'sieur Marius' friend. Not because you like me. But M'sieur Deadpool - he just gave it to me. He didn't owe me anything, M'sieur. That is the difference.

I fed you because you were hungry, and I had more than I could eat. Isn't that the way it should be? there was no more to it than that.

Perhaps that is how it should be, but you must know as well as I that it does not work like that. M'sieur, think of Paris. Think of those people in those big houses with food and money to spare. And then, think of me and my sister and my brother, being chased away from their bins. They will not even let us have what they chuck away.

[Have a rare if not slightly haughty smile.]

And it is the same here. Here, people give you things, but you have to give twice as much back. I think it's just way.

That is why the voices of those who do care need to speak than those who don't. And the more we do, the more people will see that there is still good.

Perhaps M'sieur Marius is though. Even now, he might be talking as you did. I hope he helps Azelma if I am not there.

Someone told me that when we leave this place, we go back to the same moment we left. I'm sure to Azelma it will be as though you never left her side.
