I guess it's getting to be that time of year, huh? I've never really understood people liking to be scared, even if it actually turns out to be harmless.

[A black cat yawns beside him and blinks sleepily in his direction before curling up again.]

Things always seem to get weird around here during the holidays. And maybe in more dangerous ways around this one. I hope nothing too bad happens in the next week or so.

[Bashful rubbing at the back of his head, here.] Ah, I didn't mean to be a downer or anything. Sorry. Anyway. I'm not sure I'm in the mood for it this year. Wouldn't even know what to go as, really. [Because you shouldn't do the same thing two years in a row, right? And things from home are still a little painful right now.]

So what's everyone planning to be up to this Halloween? Even if I'm not doing it, it's still nice to hear about.

They make costumes for grownups.

No. I don't really feel like it, either. But the way you said it made it sound like something bad happened before, and that was the reason you weren't doing it.

[With Gohan, this can actually work. Especially since he hasn't been judging Keigo for his lack of desire to dress up.

[Still, it's not exactly something he wants to get into too much detail about. There's a slight sombre shift in his expression.] Went home for a bit around a month ago. Stuff happened. Don't feel up to as much as I used to, yet.

Why do I never get to go home?

[Conveniently ignoring the "come right back to the Port" part.]

Well, it was only for a couple of days . . . [And Very Bad Things happened at home.]

Still! Everyone else gets to do it!

We are supposed to dress up, right? And get candy?

Yeah, that's what a lot of people do. Well, it's mostly the kids that go around and get candy, but I don't see why grownups couldn't do it, too.

I will not be getting candy, then. I am too mature for that and have far more important adult things to do.

But...

I have to find the perfect costume!!

[Look, it's okay for grownups to like candy. Most grownups he knows back home would dive right in for this.]

[He stifles a wince at the volume. But the cat at his side wakes up and scowls into the NV screen.] What do you think you should dress up as?

I can't think of anything. There is too much to choose from!

Hm. [He looks thoughtful for a bit. Least he can do is help someone else out, right? Meanwhile, the cat is still glaring.]

The usual theme is for something scary, but you don't have to do that. What kind of things do you like?

[ He's thinking hard on this one. He's really only known whatever was inside his palace walls. ]

[ His concentration is broken when he finally notices the cat glaring at him. ]

Your cat should not stare like that, it's very rude.

[ Said as he stares back at it. ]

[Cat stares harder. He will win this staring contest!]

Huh? [Also finally notices the glaring cat. He pulls it away from the screen a little and starts scratching it behind the ears.] Blair, that's not nice.

[Attention back to Soma, now.] Sorry. I think you woke him up and he's a little annoyed with that.

[ Stares back harder!! ]

That is such a tiny cat. I have never seen one so small.

I don't know what to be, we never had this holiday at home. [Or any holidays really.] I think it sounds fun.

We don't have it back home, either. I was here for it last year, though. And it is fun. I'm just not sure I feel like it this year.

Usual theme is scary things, and stuff like black cats, or bats . . . But people go as all sorts of things.

A cat sounds fun, ooh, or maybe a ghost!

[She smiles.] Sometimes you don't feel like something will be fun until you're actually doing it. And you get free candy.

It's just for little kids. Uh, but I guess that's fine for you. Anyway, that's not the point here. You sound pretty blue, what's the matter?

[He won't bother touching on that first part; he's been through it with Keigo.]

Just stuff from home.

Hmm...that's right, didn't you leave for a while and come back? That must be really confusing.

I haven't really thought about it yet.

I've mostly just been wondering what weird things will start happening this year, really.

You think they will? ...yeah, I guess they usually do, don't they.
