[The video begins with a shot of Re-l's desk, covered in case files and all manner of papers. It quickly adjusts to show her instead, sitting on the sofa in her office. Beside her is a large, black laborador, dozing with his head pressed against her thigh. She doesn't seem to be paying the beast any mind for the most part, arms folded across her chest.]

Most of you don't care to know but the Joker was found dead several days ago in the Darkness. He has yet to return and the force is on high alert for him to reappear at the baseball diamond. Hopefully, he'll see fit to stay home this time.

[It's strange, in a way, that everything's come around full circle. Her trials as an officer started with the Joker; she almost feels as if now would be the perfect time for her to resign. But that wouldn't help things, after all.]

I thought maybe I'd be bored but I found all of this work for me to do in the meantime. Courtesy of Sherlock Holmes. [She rolls her eyes, though her expression turns melancholy.] He, too, has disappeared from the island...as has John Watson. My condolences to their friends and co-workers. They were both fine men.

[It's so formal coming out of her. It makes her sick. She grimaces briefly, the disgust masked as she turns her head towards the dog.]

I suppose I'll be looking after this...monstrosity...until we get him through the proper K9 training he'll need to work with us.

[At his mention, the dog's head perks up and he looks at Re-l, tongue lolling out. Despite all of her exasperation, she reaches out to pet the big, shaggy head. After a moment, she regards the NV.]

To all Newcomers, my name is Re-l Mayer and I'm both a corporal here and a case worker. I'm here to offer aid and information for whatever you may need. I have a document you can look over for basic information, and there is a text to voice function for those who may need it. It's lacking some numbers and contacts for now and I would urge anyone to contact me should they want to be added to the Newcomer Businesses list or if they are affiliated with the hospitals.

...He's really dead?

I imagine it's not an accurate one, actually.

He was little more than a smear on the pavement. I saw it myself.

[She shrugs.]

I'm not relaxing just yet, frankly, because he's faked his death before. But the autopsy of his remains proves it was him.

As the saying goes, "people come and go so quickly here." My condolences, of course. I assume you were close.

It's a loss for the entire city that he's gone. He was an excellent detective.

[She smiles thinly.]

Give it another week, just in case, then you can celebrate.

Such a shame, really. Of course, considering none of us really belong here, loss is relative. Likely it survived before him and will now that he's gone. Sobering, isn't it? How little we matter here.

[You're gonna deny attachment. He's gonna... be a dick.]

[Oho. Come at her, sir.]

We leave our mark no matter where we go. He'll be remembered.

Newcomers have made impressive strides in the city so far. We've changed laws, created programs and built buildings for our own use. We are a presence and each and every one of us matters in some way.

I guess with this place you can never be too sure, but... A week without Joker's a week without Joker.

[You totally needed another villain to bicker with Re-l.]

And that's your sales pitch, as it were. True as it may be, you lot put a great deal of effort into something that was never yours and that you will likely not remember when it claims you as it did Mr. Holmes and so many before him.

That's a good attitude to have.

[She still feels like there's a shadow looming over her while she keeps an eye out for him.]

[Considering she just lost her Archnemesis, yeah, she kind of needs a new villain to pick at.]

Others will remember. A few people have returned with their memories, as well. There is no one set method to this place's madness.

[Sark needs a strong female to antagonize. FATE.]

I suppose I'm just cynical. Although, conversely, the more we press, the more the city becomes wholly ours. I daresay that might be the ultimate endgame, in the long run. It's certainly more optimistic.

[ And there goes the last, real shred of Gotham...or at least, its Rogue-ish underside.

It shouldn't be so sobering. ]

It's been a week for departures.

I doubt we'll ever get so far to believe the city to be ours. It would take decades at the very least.

It seems that way. I wouldn't jump the gun just yet, though.

[Seward too. She was really hit by him disappearing.]

[Somehow, she doesn't seem pleased about it.]

[ If the clown isn't back in a week, or even two weeks, he still won't call it official.

[Slowly, she nods.]

Yeah, it is. He was a good man, him and John both.
