Can anyone explain what a groundhog has to do with predicting spring? I don't think I follow that train of thought.
...And speaking of, do things like that whole day-repeating happen often? I'm glad it's over, but if it's likely to happen again I'd at least like to be more unsurprised.

To answer your first question, it's some kind of folklore, if I'm not mistaken. [ Alternatively, superstition wasn't a bad way to describe it, as Miss Ella had described it. ]
As for your second -- this is the first time it's happened, but I'm afraid it's also one of the mildest...events, to have taken place here.
