Seventeenth Frost -- Accidental Video

[When the feed comes on, it’s pretty clear it’s not on purpose. The screen is mostly looking up at the sky, though the corner of it seems to catch something made of ice. Just off screen, a pair of voices can be heard arguing.]

Get off me, stupid.

No. I like it here. You're comfy.

[An indignant huff.] Well, you're not. Move; I can't do anything like this.

You don't have to do anything. Just lay there and stay still. [Sounds of shuffling.] Is that better?

No. You know I hate that. I said get off, Bedwetter.

My bed's been dry for AGES!

Only because you've barely been in it the past two weeks. [A sound like there’s some sort of physical struggle going on.

[And then a thud.]
Ow! Shirou-chan, you're being too rough!

[The feed cuts about here, perhaps fortunately.]

[[OOC: Forward-dated to early tomorrow morning because we are horrible people who can't wait. Friends and trolls everywhere come and embarrass them. Hinamori is purple, and Hitsugaya is green. Anyone who gets shown the ice scuplture will see this.]]

[There's a bit of a wistful look on her face at that.] I'm a child for my kind, too.

I'm— [how to explain to people what she is?] a ghost. A soul. I died and then became a soul reaper. Now I help to protect Soul Society—the afterlife, where I'm from.

[Ah, she's heard of the different worlds. This is the first she's really been confronted with it. Her expression turns curious.] A reaper? [Perhaps comparable to the ones she knows.] Describe Soul Society.

Well, the poorer part is called Rukongai—the City of Wandering Souls. That's where I grew up; it's not a bad place. But those who have greater spiritual power and can pass the exams become soul reapers and live in the Seireitei—the Court of Pure Souls. We're the soldiers and protectors of Soul Society; we deal with ghosts who refuse to pass on and evil spirits that try to eat the souls. Everyone answers to the Central 46 Judges and the nobility, who in turn answer to the Royal Family and the Spirit King. Though I think no one has seen the Spirit King in a very long time.

I suppose I should say that it's a plane separate from the Living World. Things there are made up of spiritual energy rather than atoms. Human souls come to Soul Society after they die, and live there until they are ready to be reborn back into the Living World.

[Soldiers in another plane of existence. That seems far too familiar. So does a ruler who no one's seen in some time. Rachel knows too well she could be projecting her own perceptions onto it, though, and so says nothing about it.]

Neither heaven nor hell, then. Simply a part of a cycle?

Mm hm. When we die in Soul Society, we are reborn again in the Living World.

You said you were also a part of something much older. What are you?

'Heaven'? [A term for the sky, in her vocabulary.]

[There's a pause as she thinks about her response first.] Not dissimilar from your 'Soul Society' in that it represents an 'afterlife.' Heaven is where dead souls reside. [Surely that's put into terms understood by her, according to her culture?]
