[The NV is looking up at the ceiling of a room in the Tower Apartments. Dante's voice comes lazily from off screen.]

I dunno what's causing this sickness. If it's guilt or whatever. And frankly? I don't give a damn.

[The sound of bare feet padding across the floor followed by the distant tinkle of a glass being filled.]

Nope. What I'm more interested in is how this all started. Whatever this disease is, it's not exactly normal. It has to have come from somewhere. Or someone.

I think someone's fucking with us.

[Dante pads into view, looking down at the NV. He's just stepped out of the shower and has a towel wrapped around his waist. His features are haggard and he's clearly been ravaged by the disease in question. Luckily for him, the interference of a certain golden lion has restored some of his energy and he is no longer dying.]

[One hand is raised across his chest, grasping a small glass of something that appears to be alcoholic. He lowers the hand, offering a better, but only momentary, view of his bare torso when he realizes he has accidentally set the device to video instead of voice. If the gesture seems like he's showing off, it's because he is. Then he steps away again and there's the sound of him landing, rather than sitting, on his couch.]

Question is who? And why?

[There's silence as he considers his own question. The glass makes a tinkling sound again as he takes a sip.]

Hm. Well. If ya got it, just try to rest. Worrying about it will only make it worse.

[That gets her to laugh.]

A little hole in the wall in sector 9. Hard to find, but totally worth it. They don't deliver, but they make the trek worth it.

[She adds a text of the address. It's her favorite pizza place on the island.]

They don't deliver?

Hn. Lame.

I'm telling you, they're totally worth the trip dude. If you want delivery... gimme a sec.

[She has to scroll through her address book. Then she texts an address.]

Not as good, but still decent.

Huh.

Well, looks like I've got a road trip in my future.

[And a pizza tab to start, aww yeah]

I know all the best take out places. I've eaten at enough of them.

Seems like you've been here a while.

[She sighs and reaches for the fingerless gloves to go over her hands. There's a brief flash of a round white scar on the back of one hand, and then she tightens the glove down.]

Almost two and a half years.

[He notices the scar but says nothing. It's not his business.]

[He brushes a hand through his damp hair and groans.]

That's a long time.

Yeah. One of the first to arrive. I've seen quite a bit. So, ya know, blaming the Core is kinda second nature.

So this thing hasn't been kidnapping people for very long?

I'm pretty sure the same thing happened a generation or two ago. But no one really talks about that.

So that's why the natives hate us. They're worried we're gonna take over.

That, and some of the newcomers really mess up the neighborhood.

How so?

Well, let's see:

Joker's pretty well known for screwing the place up. Then, there's the vampires that went on a rampage not too long ago. Then, there's the usual stuff: petty crime, strain on resources, yada yada yada.

So a few douchebags made things worse for everyone, huh?

[Another growl-like sigh as he tries to remind himself why humanity is worth saving.]

Well, considering this place, maybe you should change that to "sentient beings" since, ya know, some folks around here aren't human.
