Diane, it's... 6:36 pm on May 17, 2012. By my calculation, that means I've been asleep for... two hundred and seventy-nine months. Twenty-three years have passed since my last recording, Diane, and I have to say: I look pretty great for my age.

The last time I remember speaking to you, it was from the floor of my room at the Great Northern Hotel and I had just been shot. I don't remember a whole lot else, but the doctors tell me I've lost quite a bit of blood so that's to be expected. I feel both frustrated and grateful. Grateful to be alive, and frustrated because the investigation is facing yet another setback.

"Setback" may be an understatement. Diane, you are not going to believe this. As I just told you, it's been twenty-three years. That's twenty-three years in the blink of an eye. They tell me I've traveled through time, and that's apparently a common occurrence around here. Here being the city of Siren's Port, Canada - that's an island off the coast to the west of Vancouver, Diane. Have you ever heard of a place like that? I sure haven't.

The frustrating part is that my ticket was one-way. Preferable, yes, to the other one-way ticket I was facing - but gosh I really felt it. I was on the verge of something. Will I ever know who killed Laura Palmer?

[There's a pause and murmuring in the background, along with the squeaking of a cart being rolled into the room.]

- Ah, more on that later, Diane. Nurse Irene is here.

I wasn't aware this device was even capable of broadcasting. To a network, you said?

Yes.

And we are capable, in turn, of communicating in return to you. As you are also able to see communications made to the network.

[He's turning the Micro-Mac slowly in hand, looking it over for any other new features. He pushes a button and - oh, there's a screen. And the person with whom he's communicating is apparently on video.]

You are unfamiliar with how this sort of thing functions?

I've never seen anything quite like it. I don't believe the technology exists in my time.

Ah, I ought to introduce you to Steve Rogers. He is a bit of a throwback, too.

He is from an earlier date than this technology as well. Rather old fashioned.

Though I hear he has assimilated quite well, so ... there is that.

What date is he from?

[doeswhathewants]

I am rather unsure, to be honest. Mortals reckon time in a different way.

[philosopher]

And you aren't mortal?

[doeswhathewants]

No. Not in the Midgardian sense, at least.

You are from Midgard, yes?

That is a name for my realm, yes. According to Norse tradition, I believe.

Well met, Dale Cooper. Most people are so morose upon finding themselves here, I like to think of it as a vacation, personally. And here you will at least have all the technology of your possible future to enjoy.

[He'd owe that a measure of respect, actually, since he's knows the Avengers work with Shield.]

Yes, I'm looking forward to it. Traveling between space and time is an extremely rare opportunity.

For mortals at least, though I think you will find this Canada is just as boring as the one in your world.

We do, yes. I was just in Canada, actually. There were considerably fewer monsters of a supernatural nature in the Canada I just left, however.

I can't say for sure. I haven't seen all of Canada.
