[Pearl Fey’s emotions don’t always show easily, but when they do, they’re usually related to ~~ships~~ Maya Fey. And while there are exceptions, today’s not one of them. The sullen, sad look that crosses her face today is definitely caused by circumstances involving her favorite cousin - as well as their roommate, Mr. Armando.

Anyway, she’s sitting on a bench in what looks like a hospital corridor. That’s already bad news, isn’t it? She frowns very deeply (pretzels drooping) and shakes her head sadly at the camera.]

Mystic Maya and Mr. Armando became very sick yesterday. We got them to the doctors safely, but...

[After a moment’s pause, she shakes her head fiercely from side to side!] I’m going to do my best to help the doctors make sure they’re comfortable! I’m still very -- [sneeze!] -- I’m still mostly healthy, and I’m going to stay by their side until they get better.

… Um, does anybody know about Mr. Armando’s pet kitty? and Mystic Maya’s bird! Vladimir and Artemis need to be fed, but I can’t go between the apartment and the hospital by myself. The plants need to be watered, too! [Someone please help a fretting girl out.]

[And then, drooping again, before she shuts off the video.] Poor Mystic Maya... poor Mr. Armando. I should have been more alert...

[After making that announcement so those who know Mr. Armando and Maya will be in the know, Pearl’s going to be in their room watching over them worriedly. She tugs on blankets and sniffles, then perches herself on a chair and watches them with a frown

[And she is! She's decided to step outside the hospital room once the promised time drew close so he would have an easier time spotting her. She's got a mask on after asking the nurses for one, too!]

[He's a few minutes late, because he dithered a bit too long over what sort of soup she'd like; he'd worried for a moment that she was vegetarian because of her faith, but then he'd remembered Maya...but then ultimately he'd decided to play it safe. So he has a bag containing a paper cup of tomato soup and a few saltines in one hand and a briefcase full of work in the other.

He has no free hand to wave when he arrives, so he nods at her.]

Hello, Pearl. First, here you are -

[She smiles and takes quick steps over to him, holding out her hands so she can free his of the load.] Thank you, Mr. Edgeworth. I hope you didn't run into any trouble on the way!

[He makes certain she has a good grip on the soup before he releases the bag, then shifts his briefcase over to his right hand.]

Not at all. Indeed, the roads were quite clear.

[Which is a troubling sign, now that he stops to think on it. Is this disease to blame for that? He's no epidemiologist, but he would assume that a comparatively low-impact disease would cause an increase in road traffic as people avoided public transit, and only once huge numbers were being forced to stay home...Well, no matter. He tries to push the worried frown off his face.]

Here - sit, please.

Yes, sir. [She carries the soup very carefully, setting that down first before she perches herself in a seat, just as she is told. She's glad to be seeing the familiar, reliable prosecutor in the middle of all this worrying and fretting and probably getting sick herself.]

It's very kind of you for coming all the way here.

[He sets down his briefcase to go and thoroughly wash his hands at the hospital's station, then picks up one of the packs of disposable alcohol wipes to sanitize the handle of his briefcase as well. Then he sits down, keeping a slight distance from her - enough to keep away from any sort of infection, but not so much (he hopes) that he looks like he doesn't want to be sitting with her.]

It's kind of you to be looking after them so diligently, Pearl. Maya is truly fortunate to have someone so devoted. Armando as well, for that matter.

[She smiles sheepishly, lightly knocking the bottom of her sandals together.] Thank you, but I'm just happy to help, Mr. Edgeworth. Mystic Maya is very important to me... and Mr. Armando is important to Mystic Maya -- and Mystic Mia -- as well. And they're both very, very important friends of mine.

[Edgeworth smiles slightly and nods. A slightly worrying question occurs to him - ]

Forgive me, but I don't think I ever asked you. What's the last memory you have of home?

My last memory? Well, I think I was at home, Mr. Edgeworth. The last time I saw you before that was at Hazakura Temple.

I see. So it was after that trial.

After that? Why, is there something wrong?

No. Nothing.

[It's just encouraging that Pearl still trusts and likes Armando after all of that - and, more to the point, that Armando allows her to trust him. But he wants to quickly move on from that topic.]

It's good that you're looking after Maya, as well. I'm sure that's very helpful to her.

Oh... yes! I'm doing my best, and the doctors said that they'll do their best, too!

Ah, quite. I don't mean just through her illness - I mean in general. But now especially, it should be a great comfort.

[A slight pause.]

How severe is her illness?

She's the only family I have. I want to do everything I can for her... But she's got a very high fever and is asleep right now.

And Mr. Armando?

He's asleep, too. He looked very, very ill before we brought him here. His doctor will be coming soon, though.

All right. Do you want to lay down to sleep for a little while? I can watch over them.

N-no, I can stay awake until they wake up...!

[She stifles a yawn.]

[And he stifles a smile.]

I can wake you up. I promise.

I-is that okay, Mr. Edgeworth? i've been so worried I couldn't sleep very well...

[He frowns a moment, pensively.]

It's certainly all right, but if you're not able to get to sleep, then the benefit will be minimized...Is there something that would help you sleep? Do you typically hear bedtime stories or something of the ilk...?

Oh, please don't worry about that! I-I think I'll be able to sleep, now, anyway. [If Mr. Edgeworth is here, he would be able to take care of things even if she's asleep. She doesn't want to shove that responsibility on him (Maya is her cousin and her village's Master, after all!) but it's a relief, knowing that there is someone capable. She yawns again, muttering an "excuse me" for it.]
