Good morning, everyone!

I've been informed that today is celebrated various places in the world as May Day, which is a celebration of the coming of spring. There are a lot of different traditions surrounding it, one of which is the secret giving of flower baskets to friends and neighbors. Another is dressing up and dancing around a Maypole, which is a tall pole decorated with flowers and often ribbons.

In honor of that, Siren's Flowers is sponsoring a May Day festival today by Winthers Lake. There will be free food and drinks, traditional dances—and don't worry if you don't know how, there'll be lessons every hour—and we're also giving out free May baskets for you to take home and leave on your neighbors' doorsteps!

There will also be flowers and gifts for sale—the shop will be closed today since everyone will be at the lake. We'll be celebrating all day, finishing up with a big bonfire this evening. You're all invited, so come out and join us!

Ah, I'm so glad. But it's horrible that you had to go through something like that...

So you run Siren's Flowers now, huh? I remember when Minako used to. And Aerith, Tifa's friend...

Oh no! I'm just the junior manager, right now. [The 'right now' might betray a subconscious realization that she's been taking on more and more of the workload since she joined the shop.]

I haven't met anyone who really knew the previous owners. Were they nice?

Really nice. It seems like only really sweet girls get the manager jobs there- ever since it opened.

[Hinamori giggles at that.] That's kind of you to say.

So who's Namine? I-if you don't mind me asking. A friend of yours, I take it...

She's... yeah, my friend, and she's... wonderful. She draws!

Ah, really? S-so do I. Perhaps... we could meet sometime. [A bit sheepishly. The conversation... isn't really about her, so it doesn't seem quite an appropriate comment. But... she likes drawing. :( ]

How long have you two known each other?

She's probably like that, making new friends.

...A long time. Longer than I've been here.

Ah—have you been here a long time?

Yeah. More than two years now.

Two years...

[Two years wasn't such a long time. The blink of an eye, to someone nearing her 126th birthday. Surprisingly, she finds herself comforted—she could handle two years.]

What was your home like, the place that you came from? It wasn't all dangerous like... that, was it?

It was...

It wasn't like this place. I'm from-

It's sort of complicated. I'm from a special castle. It was controlled by nasty people. And the floors could change, to reflect memories.

[Dopey head-tilt.] You're from a castle?

I was made there, yeah.

Made... I—I don't understand. [There's glint of hardness that enters her voice. Disapproval. Because she does understand. She just refuses to accept it.]

Don't worry about it.

I'm as much of a person as you.

I'm sorry; I— I didn't mean it like that. Please, I'd... like to know more, if it doesn't bother you to tell it.

There's not a ton worth telling. All of my good memories are from this place.

Really...

Sorry; I suppose that just seems strange to me. It seems like all my good memories are stuck back home, and since coming here it's been nothing but strange occurrence after strange occurrence. People losing their memories, losing control of their emotions, losing other people...

Home was so much more peaceful.

It's a tough city.

But it's real, and so it's okay.

It's real... [She whispers thoughtfully, then falls silent. It's... kind of poignant, and there's a sinking feeling in her gut. Because here she had been pretending that it was a dream, that she could just wake up from it, and then he goes and says something like "It's real."]

[She looks down at her hand, flexing it, slowly. It's real...]
