You know, I make sure to pay really good attention to the calendar and changing the days, and I realized that it's been a whole year and a half since I first got here. It's sort of weird - sometimes it doesn't feel that long at all, but there are times it seems a lot longer. Even though it's hard, I'm glad. I learned a lot of stuff I probably wouldn't have, from some really amazing people. Some of them have gone home, but...

[She pauses, making sure her voice will hold before continuing.]

I know most of them are back where they would want to be. Even if I miss them, being sad just shows that we were close, so I think even that is something to be glad for. I hope everyone wouldn't be too sad for very long if I got sent home again, too.

I guess I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, all my friends and even people I've only talked to once. I don't know if I could have been very happy here at all if I didn't meet all of you, so I feel like owe you a lot.

Mostly the storage of memories, actually. I recently wrote a paper on the possible conversion of memories in the brain into bit data that can be read and held by a computer.

You can put somebody's brain into a computer?

... Theoretically, yes. [ and sort of in reality, but she's not gonna talk about that. ]

That sounds really confusing! I like my brain where it is...

Well, it's more of a temporary holder. Say you got into an accident and hurt your brain - you might lose some memories. But if you'd copied your memories to a machine earlier, we could restore a lot of what you'd lost.

Oh! That sounds useful, in cases like that. Everyone should definitely be able to keep their memories.

Mm. After all, many people say that our memories are what make us who we are.

They're definitely a big part of it! Especially the memories of our friends.

It wasn't rude! It's fine! [ wait what has she been working on umm QUICK ] -- I'm trying to find a job so I can get closer to the Core and figure out what's going on!

Nobody will give you a job? That's so sad...

Ah, that's not it! I think I might have found one in the hospital, but... we'll see.

Oh! Well, good luck with that, then! Do you know how to do doctor stuff?

Well... No, but I could learn. I have the background... [ sigh. ] I'm hoping that I can just do research work.

Oh! People research stuff at hospitals, too? I thought they just took care of sick people.

Usually, yes. Unless it's a very small hospital... They may not necessarily be in the same building, of course.
