[Ugh. Those earthquakes last night. RUDE. There's little damage to the apartment, but poor Vivian the chair is rather agitated and crocheting at an almost frantic pace in an effort to soothe her nerves.

[Nevertheless, Retsu is smiling. Perhaps smiling a little too much, in that vaguely dangerous way of hers.] Little celebrations are lost so easily among all the chaos. And yet sometimes, when you look, you can see them. Such as the family that braved last evening's earthquakes to visit their ailing father in the hospital for his birthday. By all rights, they've little to celebrate at such a time, and yet the day is acknowledged. Because it means something to the person concerned.

Let us not be so continually drowned in the negatives that we forget that sometimes there are other things that deserve just as much acknowledgment.

[You know. Like birthdays. Like hers. Which is today. This is a hint for all of you people who have reason to know what an important day this is: do not forget about her. She has Wrath. (And yes, Byakuya, she has already received some of your gifts. You are off the hook, you lucky boy.)]

It is the smallest things that deserve more acknowledgment rather than the largest ones.

Huh? Who's Vivian? [She asks before she has a chance to notice the chair, tilting her head in curiosity. And then... she just stares.] Do you... is your rocking chair inhabited by a spirit?

Yes. The family she'd been staying with no longer wanted to have anything to do with her, and I was certainly not about to have her feel unwanted. [Yup, she's all annoyed frowny again. And her account of things is slightly skewed. The family had made sure to ask for a spirit-friendly home for the dear chair.]

O-oh. That's not very nice. [A sad face, and then a perky smile for Captain Unohana.] I'm glad she gets to stay with you, though! Is she... crocheting?

Yes, she is. It relaxes her, and the earthquakes last evening had her quite frightened. [If she knew that they were deliberately caused by someone, she would be very, very angry at that person right now.]

Oh, I know! They were so scary— I was afraid the entire shop would fall down! Luckily we just had a few broken vases and some plants that came unpotted. I hope you didn't have anything break...

[Earthquakes scary? Pfft. She is Captain Mom. Earthquakes do not frighten her. Especially when she's busy being angry with them for even occurring.] A few of my arrangements were broken.

[Does she sound a bit angry? She might. The earthquakes scared the chair and wrecked her ikebana. This is not condusive to serentity.]

Though that reminds me, that maybe we could get together for that sometime? I've missed your lessons. And I work at a flower shop now, so I can get us materials for cheap!

Usually, when my sisters smiled like that, they were planning on hurting somebody.

They really do, m'am. So, you were worried someone would forget your birthday, it looks like.

Most people don't celebrate birthdays in my world unless they're royalty.

Being forgotten is rather an unpleasant thing, I have found.

That is rather unfortunate. Why would that be?

I guess it's just a cultural thing. We didn't have 'child protection services' or anything like that in my world, either.

[Kevin didn't know it was her birthday until the post, but he had something he thought appropriate. But, he hadn't had everything ready, so it was a day later when he sent them.

Several simple flowers in a metal vase. Attached is a very simply written note:]

[Sorry Unohana, Iroh has just been sleeping and eating all week. After he recovers, you'll be receiving a nice gift basket of tea, along with a set of tiles and the rules of the game . An invitation to join him for a game at her earliest convenience. ]

[It's okay, Iroh. She's only bringing up her birthday because she's been angry all week. She will gladly accept the tea and will indeed join you for a game.]
