[It's Washu time! Presently, she's perched on the edge of her desk in her office at SPU, looking altogether gleeful about something.]

Hi! Good news, everyone... Or bad news if you don't like new arrivals, but by my calculations it's precisely two weeks, a day, seven hours, and twenty-five minutes until the next Core fluctuation.

Buuut that's not what I'm here to talk to you about. Ever since the time loop, I've been wondering why we don't have a meeting of the minds every month or so- I don't say this often, because no one's nearly as much of a genius as me, but I think we have quite a few actually brilliant minds here and it would be really interesting if we could all get together once a month or more often if we wanted to discuss theories and see if we can implement them ourselves. Why waste our talents with blowhards like SERO when we have our own system, right?

[She gets momentarily wistful.] The Science Academy back home helped everyone across the universe, because it was a group of dedicated people who love their work, all striving towards certain goals to better individual galaxies. If one school can do that for the universe, think of a bunch of geniuses in one town can do.

So what do you say? Anyone interested? [BIG GRIN.]

Weeeell. The last few major Core fluxes have occurred every other month and the last one was in March, meaning that by May, we should be seeing more new arrivals. But even if that wasn't enough, my Core monitoring devices always gives off similar read-outs towards the middle of the off-month. The beginning of the month is a quiet recovery period, while the end is more of a build-up until the Core's ready to begin Pulling again.

Core monitoring devices? What are those?

My own personal inventions, of course. Just a few complicated machines I made to help me keep track of the Core.

You invented something like that? [SO IMPRESSED.]

I invented so many things, really. I've done pretty well for myself, considering my limited resources.

[She grins brightly, interest piqued.]

What other kinds of things?

Ohhh. This and that. An underwater scanner to monitor the Pull at its likely endpoint, for example.

Endpoint? What do you mean?

If you swim out to sea, there's a point where you start getting sick and have to turn back. Since machines can't get sick, I've sent these little probes... [She snaps her fingers and a little hole appears in the air beside her. She reaches into it, rifles around and produces a little doll that seems to be modeled after herself wearing scuba gear. The hole closes up. Nothing about this seems weird to her at all.] ... Out to monitor the Pull's power, but every time they reach the strongest point, they break down and sink. So I'm just starting monitoring the area closest to it to find out why there. Why can't you get much farther than that, but boats can come and go as they choose.

[Ignoring everything else in favor of one thing:]

[Bringing the doll out of thin air, she means, but she doesn't specify because Ahiru.]

[I am extremely lazy and Ahiru won't understand any of it anyway, so HAVE AN EXTREMELY LENGTHY AND SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION OF HOW HER LITTLE DOLLS MONITOR THE PULL UNTIL AHIRU EVENTUALLY GETS CONFUSED AND TELLS HER TO STOP, BECAUSE THAT IS NOT WHAT SHE MEANT.]
