[When Seras inched her way closer to him, Walter had taken a moment apart from his inner turmoil to spare her a glance of acknowledgement. Still, her presence alone was not enough to soothe away his resentment. They were not yet close enough in their camaraderie for her to have that much power over his moods.

The glance immediately broke when the distinct reference to his own self reached the young butler's ears, his storm-grey eyes snapping to meet with the vampire's fiery red for that brief instant before the professor released his grip on the nosferatu and put an end to the silence that had momentarily settled over the air.

Professor Van Helsing had his full attention then. His instructions, his threats; they all burned clearly into Walter's memory. These were commands, and it was part of Walter's duties to see that they were followed smoothly. And yet, his partner was not the only recipient of Abraham's directives— for without a doubt when the aged master finished in his speaking he cast a silent look Walter’s way, and with a gesture equal in its soundlessness but for the rustling of his great duster guided the perturbed servant to come forth to their side and speak his mind.

And draw near, Walter did, the young man coming to a halt less than two feet from his partner. He was silent for a moment, at a loss for what to say— what could he say without breaking the tentative peace that hung in the air like a gossamer web? He was still very much upset by his partner’s words.

Inevitably, though, the words came; a banal reprimand spoken with the sullen tone of a child not yet ready to forgive a perceived transgression.]

…I grew a whole inch waiting for you. Idiot.

[He was taller, as the vampire would no doubt be able to see. By an inch and one quarter.]
