[To say that John sounds weary is an understatement. It's been a long few days since his roommate decided to pick a fight with Castiel and found himself hideously outmatched. Keeping Dresden alive without the aid of a hospital has been difficult.]

I have been too busy to watch the network-- has someone put down the insane self-styled god yet? I ask merely out of curiosity.

... There are times when I miss the days when I didn't have to ask questions like that. [Oh, to go back to the years when all he had to do was topple the Chicago mob and install himself at the top. Simpler times.]

[A small sigh. Someone needs a nap, not that he will admit it.]

A follow-up: What besides money is currency on this island? For those who need favors and such?

John? Is everything all right? [ Also pausing at the self-styled god part. ]

I haven't heard anything about that, i'm afraid. [ Nor does she know about the currency thing. She's only used currency. ]

[John looks tired. This is big. When John Marcone is tired, people don't tend to notice, because showing weakness is death, et cetera, you know the song and dance for this.]

Hm. Depends on your definition, really. Everyone is alive. [That's a low bar, John.]

[ Whoaah. He really did look beat. ]

In truth, I haven't left the apartment for several days.

[He looks away from the camera, where off-screen Dresden is sleeping.] The entity in question attacked my roommate. I would gain a vindictive satisfaction in seeing it put down.

Several days? [ But wh-- oh. OH. ]

Oh no - is he all right? Nono, don't answer that - [ From the look on his face it's probably a no anyway. ]

I understand why you would want something like that in that case. Is there anything I can do?

[John shakes his head slowly, smiling.] Perhaps I could use a large bottle of alcohol... Drink myself to death. Or smash him over the head with it.

[Audibly, someone out of view squawks indignantly, shouting something along the lines of, "Try it, scumbag." John snorts softly. Dresden is not so asleep, it seems.]

Or perhaps some books to occupy the man so I don't strangle him.

Drinking yourself to death is not a very good solution, I'm afraid. Smashing him over the head isn't much better either.

[ She stifles a soft giggle at the voice in the background. His friend was well enough to peanut gallery, that was promising! ]

I think I can manage a few books. Is he well enough to read them himself, or do you need someone to read them to him? [ Ella... somehow manages to keep a straight face at the question. ]

You've not met the man. Your opinion would change on that very fast if you had.

[It would take total unconsciousness for Dresden to not act like a child. How do you think he got into this mess, the idiot.]

[Ella's face stays straight, but John's makes a funny impulsive twist as he tries to beat down his amusement. He's too tired to pull off the wholly stoic act.] Well... his hand is wrapped in about three feet of gauze, but he's fairly lucid.

It might be a temporary reprieve but you'd probably come to regret it afterwards. [ TSK. Dat Harry. Ella seems amused by that attempt to hide his amusement - she will get a grin out of you yet John! And perhaps even *Gasp* a laugh! ]

So he could technically turn pages, at least. I don't have much, but I'd be happy to loan you guys what books I do have. [ She pauses, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully. ]

I'll even make good on my offer to read to him, if it'll let you get some rest. You won't be much good to him if you don't get any at all.

[It's good to have dreams, Ella.] I've had to tell myself as much many times over the years. [~~Relationship status: complicated.~~]

[John's eyebrows lift.] Miss Ella. Are you offering to babysit a injured, surly wizard?

[John's lips press together into a thin line. He hasn't been able to leave for a while. They need more money, food, medical supplies. John could make good on most of that within a day, if he could only leave the wizard for a while.] It would be... helpful, I admit.

[ One day John. One Day when you least expect it..! BAM, a smile! :D ]

Please, John. I don't think your friend would take kindly to being called a baby. But yes, I am offering to look after him for a while, so you can get some rest. [ Or take care of other affairs. ]

Then it's settled. Do you need anything else? [ She can grab some eats for them if he hadn't had a chance to get anything yet. She still didn't have much but -oh! ]

He doesn't have a problem with wolves does he? Kyra would be coming with me. [ The animal didn't like leaving her side, ever since ELla had vanished and returned. ]

[John smiles when he is toppling his enemies empires and sipping scotch over the smoldering remains?]

He's lucky I don't call him worse. [John thinks about the offer and shakes his head.] If you are certain. We're running low on some things, and getting out of the house would do well for the both of us. If you'd like to watch him until I return, I'll bring us all dinner.

He's good with animals. [Cats, dogs, reanimated dinosaur skeletons...] It shouldn't be a problem.

[ ... it's... a start...? ]

Not a problem. [ She chuckles softly - she soooo doesn't wanna know what the 'worse' would be. ]

I'll be down in ten minutes. [ It's at least one way to repay him for his favor earlier! And she'll even get dinner out of it? Neat! She looks relieved ~~though dude, if you have a tiny reanimated dinosaur skeleton in there...~~ at the latter. ]

Good. In that case it works out perfectly.

I will take the next ten minutes to convince him to play kindly. You have permission ahead of time to hit him upside the head if need be. Just mind his hand and his leg-- those are the problem areas.
