With a clatter, she drops the NV, and it now shows a crooked image of Ella with her arms full of baskets from AGI and SERO both, looking a bit lost, frustrated, and confused. Yet she perseveres! ]

I'm just trying to say - this is really too much so - oh! [ Aaand the bundle of baskets in her arms abruptly topple over when she loses her grip, tumbling onto the floor, papers scattering everywhere. Those representatives? Totally off to harass another newcomer. Help her? That's silly. ]

[ Sighing, Ella kneels to gather up what was foisted into her arms, though she catches sight of the NV recording. ]

Shinigami. Literally translated as "Death God." A protector of the souls of the dead.

A protector of the dead; or rather their souls... what threatens the dead? Demons?

Corrupted souls. That literally lose their hearts and become twisted into monsters not unlike the ones you'll find here at night. With that transformation comes the need to consume other souls.

... Is ...there any way to purify a corrupted soul? A priest? Or has something like that already been attempted and failed? Which ... is probably the case, otherwise you'd have done it already where you're from.

What can even cause a soul to become corrupt...?

We can purify the corrupted ones with our swords; it's not exactly a pleasant process for them. [You know, since purifying them basically entails cutting their head in half. Not fun stuff.]

If they don't pass properly, and linger too long in the Living World, the souls corrode. Those that were wicked in life corrode much more quickly. We send them on before the corruption takes hold if we can, but it's not always possible.

[ And here Ella thinks "purify" means you just touch them and all the evil goes away. Holy swords vs Swords to Make them Holey. ]

I guess it wouldn't be. So the darkness monsters here, they're not the same as the kind of corrupted souls you have, I guess.

Are there other ...shinigami here too?

[Nope, this is Bleach. Where purification comes from chopping things. (And Hollows are already holey!)]

Oh well - in that... [ She trails off a bit at the fluffy cat climbing into view and making herself comfortable on his head. ]

[He's mostly resigned to the fact that Yuki likes to sit on his head. The only reason he won't try to pry her off now, is because . . . well he's talking to Ella. It's a bit less embarassing when it's a friend that sees it.

[Not that he approves of the cat being on his head, mind you. He briefly casts his eyes up to the cat in a meaningless scowl.] That's Yuki. She belonged to a friend from home when she was here.

[ Ella can't help but chuckle at the sight. ]

She's adorable. Although I admit I've never seen a cat so fond of making herself comfortable on someone's head like that, before.

Been doing it from day one. [Hinamori had plopped the little kitten up there, and she'd just . . . curled up for a nap.] I'm fairly convinced she does it because she thinks my hair is like her fur.

[ She glances away from the NV briefly, then back to Hitsugaya, unable to hide the amusement at that. ]

I suppose that's a compliment? Maybe?
