[ When the NV turns on, Ella isn't really paying attention to it - though her intention might have been to use it, that thought is derailed by the chatter of several others nearby. ]
No - no no, I don't need - Excuse, me could you please stop pushing baskets at me, I don't want your brochures. Really, I appreciate it but - [ They are totally not listening. ]
No, thank you that's kind of you but could you just ... take... these -- but I - [ Yea, Ella, keep trying to talk over the company representatives. With a clatter, she drops the NV, and it now shows a crooked image of Ella with her arms full of baskets from AGI and SERO both, looking a bit lost, frustrated, and confused. Yet she perseveres! ]
I'm just trying to say - this is really too much so - oh! [ Aaand the bundle of baskets in her arms abruptly topple over when she loses her grip, tumbling onto the floor, papers scattering everywhere. Those representatives? Totally off to harass another newcomer. Help her? That's silly. ]
Could you h- oh, no, of course not, yeah, no walk away, that's just great... thanks. No, thank you,I've got it, not that you were lifting a finger to help or anything...
[ Sighing, Ella kneels to gather up what was foisted into her arms, though she catches sight of the NV recording. ]
... Is it always this...chaotic?
[ Maybe she can give this stuff to someone else. What she really needed was warmer clothing. ]

Re: Video
my mama was too busy eating to teach me. And my papa... This is how he likes me. Now leave me alone. There is nothing wrong with business.
[She hates it. But at this point, she is too tired and hungry and scared she'll lose her room to stop herself from sinking further into the criminal world.]
Video
But he just continues to glower.]
I'm not in the habit of business. You want to make a deal? Wander down to the nearest crossroads, I'm sure someone will meet you. Ella happens to be a friend of my brother, and I will not tolerate her being threatened.
Am I understood?
Re: Video
To the cross roads? [She glares at him.]
m'sieur, I ain't a whore. [Any more, since she went against AGI.] I do not make such a deal. It is not a threat. I will not kill Madame. But I will tell Lady Hattie and she will perhaps pay me then. Is THAT understood?
Video
Blackmail is a threat. And since you aren't willing to listen to logic, I could give you a better reason.
[Such as removing her ability to speak.]
Re: Video
[And it's about the only thing she has left to sell.]
How much would it be?
M'sieur, it is not blackmail. Or... Maybe it is, but it is not bad. Worse things could be done. If Madame were in France, she'd be dead already and be left with nothing now.
Video -> *action
[Nor does he seem to care.]
It is blackmail. And yes, it is "bad".
[He's refused people from Heaven before for it. Rules are rules. He cuts the feed and then with a sound of wing beats he's standing in front of her.
And there is a reason that most of the time, an angel's first words to a human are 'Fear not'.]
Re: Video -> *action
Eponine's sat on her mattress under the window, and she looks absolutely petrified to see Raphael in her room. It's so much easier to be rude when people are far away. She drops her NV and scrambles to her feet, still clutching her blanket. She's scared. But still trying not to show it, she says,
"It's rude to come in without knocking." It's the sound of a scared teenager trying to be threatening. It sounds pathetic even to Eponine, but she's determined not to be beaten in this one.
Video -> *action
"It's rude to attempt to blackmail others." It's even, almost a touch amused save for that slight lecturing tone. Raphael is one of the most powerful beings in his universe, he ran Heaven under Michael, he's used to power, to being in command, to being obeyed - and it shows, borne out in the almost relaxed-alert posture he has, the ease in the room. It's just his face that is set so firmly.
Re: Video -> *action
"It's not blackmail. You pay when you go to the shop for food, no? So you pay now. It is the same. I am not bad."
What is this man? Eponine knows she doesn't want to be in the same room as him though, especially when he's cross. But how can she get out.
"M'sieur, it is none of your business. You leave me alone."
Re: Video -> *action
Raphael isn't a man, for all the vessel is one. And while he stares back, he almost isn't conscious of him doing it. She's almost not important enough to warrant his full attention, for all he seems to be staring right into her soul.
"And her business with her step-sister is none of yours, which hasn't stopped you from forcing your way in."
Re: Video -> *action
She shifts uncomfortably under his gaze. What she's just said sounds ludicrous. Poverty has made her age faster than she should have, but she's still just a girl, barely eighteen - if she is that at all.
"It IS my business. I did not want part of it. But Hattie, she says I murdered Ella when she disappeared. I was there with Ella, you see. And then Hattie - I must work for her now. But if Ella was there, Hattie would let me stop and she would shout and moan at Ella."
Video -> *action
"You could have chosen to say nothing to Hattie at all. You could have been kind, merciful, to someone who has shown you kindness. Instead, you acted to bully and blackmail someone." The tone is lecturing, hard.
Re: Video -> *action
Give her her due, Eponine was stubborn. She wasn't about to back down, just because some strange man had come uninvited into her house to lecture her.
"Anyway, why should I be kind? It gets you nowhere except to your grave."
Video -> *action
Eponie was stubborn but that was nothing compared to an archangel.
"Perhaps if you had been kind, she would have helped you. Others would have." That was something he had seen. The Newcomers did seem to enjoy helping each other.
*action
I hadn't taken anything. Anyway, who are you to judge me? You are nothing. How dare you come into my house and talk to me in such a way? I will not have it. This is my room. And you are not welcome here.
*action
"It is my duty to judge you." There's a faint and close clap of thunder, and he takes a step closer.
"As it is my duty to watch over my brother's friend."
Re: *action
She jumps at the clap of thunder and bends down as he steps closer, grabbing up Ella's sword. She stands straight, clutching it and pointing it straight at Raphael.
"Do NOT come closer to me. Do not, or God help me I'll run you through. I will. You will NOT touch me! I don't care if you think you can judge me. I don't care what you think. I will NOT let you touch me."
Re: *action
"God helps no one nowadays." A sad truth to the word, and said almost without bitterness.
Re: *action
She watches the man warily, not dropping her sword. Eponine's reasonably tall, but she's slight. She's no match for Raphael, even if he was not an angel.
"I'm not lying. I took nothing. Ella had taken Hattie's keys, and Hattie asked me to take them back."
*action
He doesn't even seem concerned about the blade. He's not even watching it.
"Ella was locking a stranger out of her home. She did not know who Hattie was."
Re: *action
"Do you truly believe? I have only seen those who go to church believe, and the priests. But they are bad. They let us starve. I don't believe in God. And I don't believe Ella did not know. How could she not? It would be as if I did not know Gavroche or Azelma. Or my other brothers... I was still not stealing."
Why is she explaining herself to this man? She's had enough. She's tired. It's been another long day and she still has to message Jack to tell him where she is.
"Get out of my room now."
*action
He settled, face smoothing. "Magic perhaps. She left before I could determine what happened." It wasn't that odd to him, utterly dismissive of Eponine's disbelief.
"Where you attempting to take something which did not belong to you?" He ignore her demand. He was making a point.
Re: *action
She looks shocked. From her hazy knowledge of religion, she realised that Jesus was a very important bit of it. She had also thought he was dead...
"You are Jesus and you talk of magic? How can that be? No, you are lying about one. And I did not steal. Not for me. I took the keys for Hattie when Ella was gone. You see, a deal. I got the keys and Hattie made me a dress."
*action
"I am not lying, magic well exists." Lucifer was the one who never lied, but Raphael was being truthful now. "It doesn't matter if you stole for yourself or someone else - you still stole."
Re: *action
"...Well, so what if it was stealing? I don't care. I got a new dress from it."
A servant's dress as it happened; Hattie had tricked her. And Eponine hated stealing, but she was not going to let some man butt in - even if he was related to God - and tell her what to do. She's well aware that she's bad, but there's nothing she can do about it. She may as well get as much enjoyment from her bad ways as possible.
