[ There's a lot going on in the Port right now, but a one Sam Winchester doesn't care. He's only been missing for two days, but he looks as if he's been gone for months. The changes are slight, in his physical appearance. His demeanor, though... is another story. And when he goes to send out a message to his brother, he's not quite put together enough to manage the secure connection. ]

I went home, for... a while. Now I'm back.

[Well if that look doesn't remind her of the Sam she used to know.]

What happened? What do you remember?

[She wants to ask about him remembering his time here, from before. He left and came back and if he remembers everything...but she doesn't. There's something bothering him and it seems a little more important.]

[He hadn't felt Sam leave, but he'd noticed he was gone after looking up his NV number a few days earlier. That he's back in a welcome surprise, but he doesn't seem well, and Castiel is concerned.]

[Oh. That's not good, and for a moment Castiel is almost frozen with surprise and some shock; when Sam was here before, that was very close to the point in time he had been from. The main issue, the demon blood, is the same, and he can't even begin to think about what they're going to do about it this time, so he ignores it entirely to focus on what's not doubt the harder topic for Sam, but easier for him. It's selfish, but he can hide it with relevancy.

The only problem is, he has no idea what to say. He wants to reassure Sam, but how can he? It's not really reassuring, what happens, and he would have to explain. But Sam deserves to know at least one simple fact.]

You don't remain there forever.

[Maybe that at least will bring him some peace, and let him enjoy the fact that he succeeded in doing something incredible.]

He didn't want another repeat of the last time his brother went missing so despite what he knows it means he's grateful to see him on the other end of the receiver.]
