I am used to addressing people, but not using this new invention. Please excuse me. I realize that I am a newcomer here, and that I am to make myself known using this… thing. I was baffled when I found it. I’ve never smoked in my life.

At any rate, the time has come for me to discover what I can about myself and my new surroundings. If I may glean some knowledge that I may take back to my own home, I shall not consider myself ill-used in any way. Consider me a pupil, kind people.

I have logging, and have been offered work. What employment I shall accept still remains to be seen. However, the food that has been left to me is far too much for one person. Wasting it would be obscene. I would like to find a way that it can be distributed among those who need it more than I, but I’m not sure how to do so.

I thank you, Sir, for your assistance. But, I would like to repeat that I do not wish to hoard it like some kind of lord. Surely it could go to use. I have more than enough. Why should I keep more than I need, if someone else does not have enough?

Well, usually people store food for themselves to provide for a week or so. Some of the canned goods will remain good for quite a long time, several months, as long as they aren't opened. You could bring people to your apartment at the tower and serve them food there if you so desired. Food is nourishment for the body, but conversation and time spent with others if food for the mind and soul.

How am I to store food when others go hungry? Yes, I certainly wouldn't mind feeding the hungry here.

You would be storing it for others. If you are feeding people at your place, then you would need to have food there, correct? Just a suggestion, there are also places where you can donate the food.

Yes, it is a train that goes underground and transports to various parts of the city. It is quite an efficient system, I was very impressed when I arrived here.

A different world from what I have been able to understand. I have travelled the majority of my world, the North and South poles, on water and land, and I have never heard or seen things like that I have seen here. Specifically I was pulled from the largest city in my world Ba Sing Se. From what my reading has told me, many of the customs are similar to... Asia, though I have never heard of such a place before.

To travel is admirable, monsieur. You must have learned a good many things about the world, and man.

Oh yes, got to see many different things. It is amazing what the world has to offer, such variety of different peoples. This is sort of a crossroad between worlds I think it has been described as. The city internally has many problems, the most obvious being the darkness which corrupts the land at night.

That is a complicated sort of answer. Some people who have arrived, would be dead in their own worlds. Others are quite alive, and have nothing wrong with them back at home.

My experiencing what life had to offer was never an issue. I do not consider my life wasted. In fact, I would think myself less in need of a second chance at life if I had spent it in the pursuit of mere experience.

I devoted my life to something important. That matters more.

The rights of man, and dignity and freedom for all people, not just those with the money to buy it.

Well, those are certainly important, but there is no reason you cannot also seek your own happiness and love.

That would be selfish and trivial. I have no interest in perusing such things.
