[A boy, thin and haggard, trembling. His face is drawn and pale and he's twitchy, glancing to the side every few seconds like he's waiting to be attacked.

Considering he entered Siren's Port an hour or so after midnight, this isn't that much of a surprise.

He's still feeling a little sick, although it's as likely to be psychosomatic and aggravated by malnutrition as the actual lingering effects of the pull.]

The weather. [His illness, the things he's seen--creatures, humanoid, black holes of power. Other creatures, malformed and disgusting. He doesn't want to talk about it.] Is it always like this?

[Cold. It's not that he's never been exposed to it, but it's a rarity. He's used to a perpetually warm climate, both from the areas he's been traveling in and his birthplace.]

[The implication in that statement is heavy.]

[ It slips out before she really got to process it, but she stands by it. ]

[ Don't make her cry, Sasubutt. She reddens, embarrassed by her shout of his name. How could he say that? ]

Yamanaka.

[He ignores the reddening of her face. Simpering and pathetic. She doesn't understand--never has.]

Konoha has always been your home. Even after you abandoned it.

[ Abandoned Sakura. Naruto. All of them. Sakura should be the one here. She'd know what to say. ]

Konoha was my willing prison until my eyes were opened.

How can you say that?! You were born and raised there. We all grew up together! It is your home!

[ Sakura hadn't been lying when she'd said he had changed. She hates it. She hates this Sasuke. ]

I was born into exile and raised a pariah, sentenced to death and with a price on my head like a rabid animal.

[His eyes narrow.]

Don't pretend you know anything about me.

[ Her eyes water slightly and she stares solemnly down at the feed. ]

You're a criminal now because you abandoned your home, Sasuke.

Everything was fine until the Chuunin Exam.

[Teeth gritted. Ignorant Leaf girl. His hands shake with anger.]

If I'm a criminal for breaking free, so be it. But don't call that prison my home.

Konoha isn't the one you should be blaming. Konoha didn't do anything to you.

[ He's an idiot, she keeps telling herself. He's deluded and not thinking clearly. Hasn't been for the past three years. Revenge was awful, the way it had corrupted her Sasuke. The one Konoha knew and used to love. ]

You know nothing of what Konoha has done to me.

[His lip curls in a sneer.]

Stupid girl.

Sasuke...

[ She looks down, wiping at her cheek. The insult isn't why gets her. The sneer, his comment before... ]

Are you really giving up on Konoha? Did all of those years mean nothing to you?

[ Her voice remains steady but she closes her eyes. Why was this hurting so much, hearing what she already knew from his mouth? ]

There's nothing to give up.

[Harshly.

For a moment, he feels guilty. She obviously has no idea what the truth is--doesn't know of the death sentence laid on Itachi's shoulders.

But only a moment. Her ignorance is sickening.]

[ She is speechless in the worst way. The tears are still flowing slowly and she doesn't know what to say.

You don't mean that. But he does.

What happened to you, Sasuke? But she doesn't want to know the answer to that.

She opens her mouth to speak, then closes it.

She is supposed to kill him on sight. That was her duty as a shinobi when somebody was considered an s-class criminal. But she won't. She can't. Everyone deserves a second chance. Sasuke needs one. He doesn't necessarily deserve it, but he needs one. For Sakura and Naruto's sake.

She looks up, blinking away the last of her tears. ]

You know that isn't true.

[Anger coils sweet and acrid in him.

She doesn't know. She sits there and blinks at him, oh-so-sad, oh-so-tragic. He wants to hit her, choke her--demand she drop to her knees and beg to be forgiven for the hundreds of lives that were snuffed out so the village could gorge itself on peace and ignore the blood that had bought it.

He trembles.]

Don't tell me what I know when you don't know shit.

Then what am I missing? I know Konoha did nothing to you or your family. You're punishing all of your friends for something that happened years ago when we were all children.

[ She's passed the grief stage and has moved into anger. ]

They've been lying to you.

[He responds to her anger with defense, bristling.]

Why do you think the Uchiha compound was at the outskirts of the village? We were exiled. The senjuu hated us and wanted to make sure we never got a voice. When we tried to rise up against the oppression, and the elders ordered our slaughter.

[He's shaking now, teeth gritted.]

Itachi was forced to murder his family for the sake of your precious peace. If they'd had their way, I'd be dead too. My brother's love stayed his hand, and you're alive because of his sacrifice. So don't fucking tell me they did nothing to me--they stole everything and you have the nerve to fucking laugh when the ground under you is drenched with blood!

Whoever told you that was lying, Sasuke. Konoha would never do that.

[ Her loyalty to her village and family was unwavering. ]

Danzo himself told me before I killed him.

He must have been mistaken. Konoha would never do that.

Your inability to accept reality is pathetic.
