[Now here's a rare sight. Raphael Sorel, seated in a chair at his and Amy's home, setting his NV down to make a recording. Heavy curtains are blocking the light from the windows in the background, and if you use your imagination, the Frenchman looks a bit pale and a little bit sick.

His manner is businesslike and diplomatic, which may come as a surprise to anybody who's dealt with Raphael and his attitude before.]

I've rarely the time nor the inclination to use this "network" ordinarily, though today I have an offer for any enterprising souls who may be looking for a source of income.

My name is Raphael Sorel. My daughter and I are in need of an... assistant. [He phrases that oddly delicately.] For the sum of $100 an hour, you will report to our home on at least a weekly basis for a span of 1-3 hours. The work will be simple, and no particular skills are required. Once your specified duties are performed, you will be paid immediately, and free to go about your business.

I am willing to hire at most two individuals for this purpose, however, I would prefer one to be male and one to be female if I do so. I will not accept anyone under the age of adulthood, nor will I accept anyone who takes an undue interest in his or her tasks.

If you are interested, contact me and I will discuss the provisions with you. Your interest is by no means a guarantee of employment.

[Satisfied with his incredibly sketchy, clearly suspicious advertisement, he reaches for the NV, but then pauses.]

And it is not prostitution.

[He's still angry about favors. But now, Raphael has money. And money is the ultimate deterrent of favors. He would never ask for this without compensation.

If he suspects Elaine has guessed what he's looking for, he doesn't show it, answering as casually as ever.]

[Amy was actually nearby, reading a book, when Raphael made the advertisement.]

I hope no one finds it too suspicious. More importantly so, I hope someone does take an interest in it. The chilled packets are not doing well for us.

[He closes his NV and leaves it on the table once he's finished, sitting up and glancing over at her.]

I'm afraid suspicion will come with the territory, my dear. But perhaps someone's thirst for gold will be stronger than ours.

Hm. I do hope so. [She sighs.] It's been quite a while since I've felt proper warmth. Cooked food does little to help.

I know, mon ange. We will take care of it.

[He glances at her briefly, a little heavy-hearted.]

[She gets up from where she was seated to come up to her papa and give him a firm, warm hug. She doesn't like seeing him so heavy-hearted. Because she knows that he'd go to great lengths for her... including disappearing for so long in search of Soul Calibur.]

Well, I'm glad you cleared that up, I was getting worried. What an odd request this is.

[probably smuggling or drug processing, he thinks idly to himself.]

If you do not trust it, you are not obliged to accept it.

I didn't say anything of the sort. [he doesn't trust much anyway, so it makes little difference in his mind if he doesn't.] It's simply put forward so oddly, a man can't help but wonder. Given that, I don't suppose you're inclined to explain unless in person.

I will explain the stipulations under a private filter for all interested parties. This is not something to be undertaken lightly, for either of us.

We have been subsisting on hospital run-off since I was released from prison. It's becoming increasingly intolerable.

Ah. I figured as much.

[She could go for the tried and true Sanguinarian Society suggestion but she assumes that won't fly.]

I can be there for her - and you, I suppose - once or twice a week if you need. And no, I don't want payment.
