For those of you who knew my nephew Zuko, he disappeared this morning. It was as if he vanished, not a trace of him anywhere.

[He had made an effort of looking]

I think that it will probably be for the best, he has much work to do back home.

[It is a bittersweet parting. He was glad to have family here, but he would rather Zuko be off fufilling his destiny]

Fate is something that can be changed. The Core... None of us can control that.

You wouldn't consider that a form of fate?

I don't think so. I mean, back home, fate was always something that we could decide. I guess fate could just be different in this world, but I don't like we're powerless against something like that.

I suppose destiny would be the word. I believe that people have something they are supposed to do or accomplish in their lives, it may not be entirely clear at first, but later on it will be. I for instance once dreamed I would conquer the city of Ba Sing Se.

Yeah, but isn't that different than what the Core does?

I believe the Core takes those it thinks may have some effect on repairing damage to it. It may not be clear to those of us brought in, but some purpose is bringing us together.

I'm thinking more about it sending people home, though. If it was our fate to be brought here, why would it just send some of us back?

But I guess... One of my friends who got sent back said that he didn't think we really had free will in this city, because we couldn't choose whether to stay or leave. Maybe he was right in a way, because I know he wanted to stay here. So maybe you're right.

It may all be part of a wider picture. It is only a theory though.
