Hi.

[Prue looks less than stellar- eyes slightly rimmed with red, makeup just barely smudged enough to indicate that she was probably crying a while ago, or came close recently. She's frustrated and has a small smear of ash on one cheek.]

Does anyone have any experience with their magic or- or powers from home not working right here?

I can't make any spell work. I've tried everything I can, and almost nothing I've done since I came here has done anything but almost destroy my ceiling.

[She makes an almost painfully frustrated noise in her throat, teeth on edge and eyes watering angrily.]

This is ridiculous, I'm stronger than this.

How do you know him?

He's my brother. [ And now Sam grins. ] How do you know him?

He- what? You're his brother?

[She looks PERSONALLY OFFENDED by this fact. And by Dean's existence, judging by her face.]

He was my Greeter.

[upstairsbrain]

Yeah. [ And he looks at her questioningly. Why is this offense, Prue. )8 ]

Uh-- 'Greeter?'

You know, those people in the baseball field.

[Sam's probably talked to enough people in his life that he can tell when there's something else layered under anger or irritation. He could probably, for instance, tell that she's a little embarrassed at the memory she's referring to, and that there's more of a story here.

It wasn't her best moment.]

He was the first person I saw when I- showed up here. You know, I don't know who gave him his on the job training, but I think he slept through the finishing school part.

Right! Right. [ Yeah, he had a lot going on back then, so the name of the job escaped him. ]

Yeah, that... sounds like Dean. [ He smiles, despite himself. ] Kind of rough-and-tough, give 'em Hell attitude?

Yeah, sure. You could call it that. You could also call it being rude and judgmental.

[Dean could have so gotten close to getting some of this (with some work), but he struck out hard. Now she just has to stop herself from judging Sam for having the bad luck to be related to him.]

[upstairsbrain]

... Yeah, you could. [ He shrugs. ] I know what he's like-- believe me. But, he means well.

[ U...suaully. ]

I'm guessing you've never been half-dressed and told him you were a witch.

[upstairsbrain]

Uh-- no. Definitely not.

It's quite an experience.

It's just nice to see that that attitude doesn't run in the family.

It's not an excuse, but... most hunters are brought up 'shoot, and ask questions later,' so... we're really not encouraged to look for the gray area. Not saying it's right, seriously, but that might... lend to why they've got the attitudes they do.

[And then Prue realized this whole thing is public and got squirrelly about it. She locks down the thread and shifts uncomfortably in her chair.]

What is witchcraft really like in your world? It might not seem like it matters, but I'd like to know what assumptions I'm dealing with.

[Not that she'll go cry in a pillow about it, but Prue finds herself caring about what these people think of her.]

Where I come from, good witches exist to fight those people. All my magic and my powers hinge on me being good and following the Rede.

[The Wiccan Rede. Prue has no idea what a nerd Sam is, but still forgot that not everyone knows this shit.

It's just. She wants people to understand. She's never had to justify this before.]

I believe you. [ He does, really. And he smiles a bit at the mention of the Rede, nodding his head briefly. ]

I can disassociate stuff from back home from here. And I know some things about the Rede.

[ Giant nerd, hollah. ]

[That brings a smile to her face.]

That's the whole point of white magic. Breaking the Wiccan rule has consequences for us, personally and magically.

I get it. Like I said, things aren't black and white. [ He's always believed in fifty shades of grey, even when other hunters didn't. ]

Did you grow up a Wiccan?

[Talking about it with someone not in the practice is feeding a thirst she never knew she had. This was Phoebe's ballgame, wanting to reach out to the Wiccan community, not hers- but now that she's away from her sisters, it's nice to not feel so alone.]

No, we didn't know anything about magic or Wicca until about a year and a half ago.

My grandmother died. She had our powers bound when we were little, so they didn't come until she was gone and all three of us were in the house together.

[It's a harmless thing to tell, she reasons, especially here where so much from their homes are cut off.]

[ Powers connected to other people, or beings, wasn't something he'd never heard of. After Yellow-Eyes had been killed, his own psychic abilities had stopped, too. Sam nods. ]

Going out on a limb here and assuming your sisters are witches, too?

Yeah- definitely. We're stronger when we're together.

[She isn't going to tell anyone about the Power of Three, but there's no harm in confessing to a little sisterly connection. She smiles softly, determinedly keeping any sadness out of her expression.]

I know the feeling. [ Seriously. If anyone knows about family bonding and co-dependent siblings... yeaaaah. ]
